throttle mode?

Recommended Posts

The THROTTLE MODE (1) switch sets throttle mode to AUTO, BOOST or MAN modes respectively, with auto being springloaded back to boost but held in place electrically as mentioned above.

what does that actually mean? auto what? what is boost?

Auto is your Approach Power Compensator, it regulates engine thrust to maintain the optimum angle of attack for landing.

Boost is the normal mode for the throttles in boost, it provides electric throttle operation and it would only take 2 to 3 pounds of force to move the throttles. Power settings are detected by the throttle position sensor.

Man is the manual mode is a degraded mode and used as a backup when in manual power settings are transmitted by push-pull cables and would take 8 pounds of force per throttle to move.

AUTO is the autothrottle mode, where the throttles are moved automatically to maintain 15 AoA, recommended to use with ACLS.

BOOST is the normal manual operating mode. In this mode, throttle movements are detected by a position senser which then commands an electric motor to set the power lever shaft (which in turn commands engine power) to the desired position.

MAN mode is a backup mode where the power lever shaft is directly controlled via push-pull cables attached to the throttle levers. In the real AC, this mode will cause mechanical hysteresis effects (meaning that moving the throttles from position A to position B and then back to A will not results in the same power setting at position A as before). I don't know if this is modelled though.
