The A-10C more fun than the F/A-18?

Apples and oranges, regarding A/G operations the A-10C is a pure CAS/Tank buster platform with lots of station time, as for the F/A-18C it's a deep/precision strike and anti ship platform, fast in, fast out. Cannot compare the two at all, it would be like comparing the Spitfire and Mustang, two different planes for different roles

the cool thing is, we've got both and can enjoy 'em! :)

Yes and other very cool modules in the near future, all the new models being developped right now are going to make module developement a lot faster in the future and bring other modules to whole new level like the new IR modeling for the A-10C and the litening :D:thumbup:

At this moment, the A10C is a more fun module for me.

Can't explain why, it might have to do with the specialization. The A10 was made for one thing and one thing only and that's to bring pain to the ground. The F18, while more modern, more versatile and overall the better choice, just isn't quite as fun. I'm sure it will evolve with time though and both choices and great.

Interesting, Dafiew, I thought they were both basically air superiority fighters. What are the differing roles between the Spitfire and Mustang?

The spitfire is a short range interceptor with a very defined and limited role, intercepting enemy planes, the mustang on the other hand is a multirole high altitude long range attack and escort fighter that can do pretty much anything very well, only surpassed by the P-47 as it is the best multirole aircraft of the WW2 era

I have both and I always go back to the A10C.

Although I am still learning the Ka50 and F18.

The A10C is a more complete module than the F18. As far as I know we're still missing the FLIR POD and Arrams and ground radar.

It also feels like there is a lot more debt to the A10C cockpit. I feel like its more complicated which sorta adds to the fun.

With the Maple Flags training missions, the A10C feels complete, as you are forced to learn the ins and outs of the machine, and naturally, this makes it much more fun. With the other planes, you do not get the right feel and it is not fun to learn when you do not get educated with the "real" procedures, as you do in the A10C. Hence, the machine is most fun when you master it. The F18 just feels like it is guess and play, and also it is not complete.

The KA50 is a lot of fun, and I really miss a similar campaign as the Maple Flags campaign for the A10C, it feels like you are not able to learn it fully. But the KA50 is a total different game than flying the A10, F18 or other aeroplanes.

So to sum it up, for me, a thorough realistic learning campaign is what is needed to make most fun of any aircraft, it feels like you are going in school, i.e. like the Top Gun school. :D

I think that DCS is, at the moment, more tailored to CAS operations, that's why, personal preferences apart, the A-10C or the KA-50 may offer a more fun environment.

Also, the Hornet is far from complete and at the moment offers limited capabilities.

With larger maps and a dynamic campaign, DCS may become more multirole in the future.

Completely agree.

In any sim, for me it is fidelity and dept first. My specific attraction to the A10C is the proximity to surface action (CAS) and weapon versatility. This uniqueness complements nicely with other more fast/A2A/multirole/bvr/high altitude strike oriented sims and a/c.

One word. Avionics.

Plain and simple. They suck. They're dull. Uninspiring. Boring. Unintuitive. Pathetic. The FBW doesn't help too.

Give me A-10C any time.

fbw, yes. similar avionics - no. Compare the hotas controls. Same TMS/DMS, albeit a somewhat simpler implementation. Still better than the bug.

Since I've been using VR, the A-10 cockpit just doesn't feel like the -18, which is expected considering the module was designed pre-VR. Perspectives and depth just seems off. Some updates to the cockpit (which IIRC are somewhere in the pipeline) would be welcomed, and would definitely get me flying it more.

That aside, the A-10 is still a blast to fly even though it's not as fast or maneuverable. It keeps you in the combat area much longer, which means more play time with targets and that's the fun part.

I don't really care for the CM system on the Hornet. The A-10 has a quick and easy interface for both programming and modes and I do miss that sometimes.

Not a fault of the aircraft, but I just dread tanking via the basket (also a gripe for the Harrier and M2000). The boom is so much easier to me. That's another thing I miss....

Both of the airplanes are just great. Prefering the F/A-18 bit more right now, but still like the hog a lot! :-)

I also prefer the F-18 and the multi role capabilities one of my favorite modules so far.

The speed is decent can carry lot of bombs and can do lot of task.

Only thing i dont like about hornet is other fighters like F-15 feel so much easier when dogfighting it.
