Sea Dragon campaign broken

I'm at mission 5 and I'm frustrated beyond any will to play...

 

Mission 3 had me attack some speedboats with... bombs? WTF, no way I can hit a fast, moving target with any bomb with any wind involved. So I have to start the mission with rearming myself...

 

Mission 4 had me bomb some trucks. Strong AAA meant I have to stay high, but ridiculously strong winds meant I can't hit shit with bombs. Yay... got to use rockets and pray that AAA doesn't hit me (and rip me to shreds with just a handful of hits)

 

Mission 5 has me take off and to some CAP. Great. Problem is, I'm (yet again) placed at the forward "catapult". Fully loaded with missiles. And 100% gas. I'm less than 1000 lbs from max weight. Surprisingly, it is impossible to not crash into the sea at this weight. Moreso, I can't just manually move to the rear "catapult", because the blast shields are up, and my wingman is blocking half of the deck.

 

This campaign clearly wasn't properly updated to latest patches and is borderline unplayable, and for all the wrong reasons.

 

Also, who's idea was it to use english voice synthesizer? I get it - voice actors cost money, but the campaign would be much more playable if.. if this crap was just removed.

Well, I tried that mission and I had no problems taking off. Are you sure you are using the correct procedures? Opening the engine grids? Then holding the breaks and going full throttle before applying the extra power boost to get off the deck? It was tight but I had no real trouble taking off on that mission. Maybe reduce the fuel a little bit.

Take-off can be tricky, this is the first time I ended up in the sea but that was on my 3rd try as I was being sloppy. Proper procedure you take-off fine, although the darkness is disorienting and quite scary!

 

 

I have a different problem with this mission. I can't seem to get those damned F-16s on my radar. I can see them in datalink and use "bogey dope" to get range and relative altitude to set up my radar beam right on them, but often I can't get them on scope and even when I do, I fire a few 27ERs that don't do anything, and then I lose the lock (or die).

 

 

If I lead the attack, I get taken out by a 120. If I order my wingman in, he takes some of them down but eventually goes, leaving me 1v2 against the second wave and again, I'm flying around desperately trying to get a radar lock on them. Once merged it's hopeless. WVR in those light conditions against AI that knows where you are... yeah.

 

 

Any tips?

I’ll try it but when I played a few months ago it was fine. Yes it’s hard, use the mission editor to adjust your load out. You shift + brake, special AB, no inlet grids, try to keep the alpha low and raise gear second you clear the deck. If you get to low you can always hit “S” and pull alpha until you stop descending. Air to ground is always hard, take your time, I always prefer my own load outs to the default ones.

Just wanted to revisit this as I played the mission a couple more times last night.

 

I think the biggest mistake to make in a heavy loaded carrier take-off is to let the nose drop because you're afraid to stall. You won't, the flight computer won't let you. Trust the thrust, you have tons of it. Stick back slightly as you go up the ramp, hold the nose above the horizon after you come off, stick all the way back as it tries to drop and the speed warning comes on, hold it through the shake... And you're off!

 

As I said, did it a couple of times again, radar altimeter didn't even drop into single figures.

I'm having the same issues with those twatting 16s, takes forever to get a lock by which time you already have an Aim 120 towards you, I was sat literally half a mile behind a 16, and no matter what I used , bore, longitudinal, HMS , i just could not get a lock. frustrating as you like

I set a new "record", radar altimeter didn't go below 20m during the take-off in this mission. Definitely do-able, definitely not broken. :thumbup:

I have done a lot of reading and improved my radar handling. I've now graduated from being blasted by AMRAAMs to being blasted by Sidewinders because it's dark by the time we merge and I have 0 chance of seeing them.

 

 

As for lock, when they're closing set the radar to High PRF and pester the AWACS for "picture" to tune your settings to pick them up. I fly in about 7000m, that puts me usually 2000m above them, radar 2km down at 50km expected range. Usually I pick them up about here, which is well outside missile range and gives me plenty of time to order my wingman to do a pincer and attack their lead while I go the opposite direction and focus on the second. ECM on also helps. From there, I can reliably get 2x 27ERs in the air and beam them to not get hit by any 120s. Unfortunately though they dodge the 27s easily and eventually we merge and I get taken out, because it's pitch black!!!

 

 

Oh well, more practice required.:joystick:

Nice one VC, I've litrally just gone up to 8000 and tried to come down on them but their 120's were still in the air before I could get them scanned, once there's a 120 in the air you have to go defensive, practice practice I shall give your tactics a try :) happy hunting

Why this campaing is in English language, its not realistic.

I want to play it in russian.

How can I do it?

You can't. There are only subs for Chinese and Korean.
