Wonder what version of the Oculus SDK will be in 1.5

You have to understand these guys have been waiting a long time for this update to 1.5/2.0 and with all the delays, the announcement for end of September was a small light towards the end of a long black tunnel. Anymore delays even the smallest to all of us is yet another major bug in community support. Or maybe my military past just jades me on deadlines if I here late September I expect it in September no later, and I also worked in software and well my deadlines whether hard dates or not was done and out to the clients as stated. But that's just me, customer is always right.

 

Nobody wants this out more than ED, that said, they wont put it out just to say its out and have something nobody can use or has major instabilities. At any rate, this thread isn't about discussing release dates, so lets stay on topic.

Wonder what version of the Oculus SDK will be in 1.5

 

I can't understand why this hasn't been answered when I've seen so many people asking about it. I see it asked in the Q&A for the streams a lot, but without knowing the answer it just leaves people stuck not knowing if to update their Oculus Rift or not. Oculus currently has a 0.7 patch out, so it would be nice to know what version DCS 1.5 is going to use.

There is a OR thread on these forums, generally when Wag's has something new to add about that he will add it there, I will see if he has any updated info for the FAQ.

Added some OR info to the FAQ:

 

What version of the Oculus SDK will be in 1.5

ED currently has 1.5 working with the 0.7.0.0 SDK and DK2, but there are known bugs that will continue to be worked on. The primary Oculus focus is on CV1 implementation.

that is fantastic news!

0.7 to my knowledge is direct mode only.

which means they have 1.5 running in direct mode, which is leaps ahead of Elite Dangerous and Assetto corsa.

(assetto, elite and dcs are the primary VR experiences at the moment, benchmarks if you will)

I notice here

Matt can drop only 1 flare not 2,, is there a new flare mode can select for flare? just like real aircraft?

 

In an A-10C, you can change the number and freq. of dropping flares and chaffs

Sorry to be the party slammer but its already 23rd of September and still no 1.5 and just hopes and dreams being sold here,thinking Star Citizen will be out before 1.5 Beta?

September was no set in stone, the team is working hard to get this out to us, no one is more eager than ED themselves to get this in our hands, and honestly, comments like this are very frustrating to everyone involved... would it make you feel better to have a 1.5 on your system and maybe you favorite module doesnt launch, or maybe it does launch and crashes to the desktop? We need to be patient, ED is nearing the end of the tunnel, please try and relax and understand they are working very hard to do this, this is top priority.. not some scam..

 

PS, I wont answer another comment like this, be eager, be frustrated, but dont expect you can come on the forums and say what you want out of impatience. Its coming.

There's already the possibility to drop a single flare per use on the A-10C. Just setup the mode accordingly, 1 flare per cycle with any interval value.

 

 

here's a fine enough video I guess, that shows the display configuration of the countermeasures modes at 0:45.

Well, I'll make a quick question then...

 

Will 1.5 and subsequently 2.0 be less system memory savy/intensive than current released build? In other words, who have some stutters here and there occasionally might get a smoother gameplay at 1.5? (even with requirements being higher at RAM amount?) silly question, but we never know...

 

8gb system Ram, 2gb Vram gtx 670.

I'm asking the same, as I fear my HD6570 2gb ddr3 isn't going to keep up and I can't afford an upgrade right now.

In his last video in a Mirage test flight, Wags looked at the F5 parked and said something like oh what are the F5 doing there. I think that seals it :)

Question about dynamic shadowing. (sorry if this has been asked before, didn't see it in this thread)

 

I see in the various vids of 1.5 and 2.0 that the new graphics engine has dynamic shadowing of buildings and different structures.

What I don't see (which I hope will change) is the shadows affecting other objects such as trees/buildings etc...

 

for example, in the cities such as Las Vegas, we see many building shadowing, but none of them overlap each other -

Could be wrong, but I remember something being said about an option for this in DCS World 2.0, in one of the first streams. Turning it on would allow buildings and such to cast shadows onto other objects, but of course with a penalty to performance. Something like that.

Can someone please explain me the F5 joke? Dont get it....

First in one video we saw an icon for the F-5 module on Wags' DCS main screen. A post was opened and speculation started.

In one other video afterwards (L-39 I think) while taxiing there was an F-5 parked and Wags said "I wonder what this F-5 is doing here".

Add more speculation.

Then in the latest "first look" video (Mirage 2000-C), again, taxi, F-5's -> even more speculation.

in the last Wags video (the Mirage 2000 one), we see very strong, high contrast shadows projected on the cockpit glass. Is this a bug to fix or it's a feature?

 

I don't find them very realistic in their actual status.

 

We see also the aircraft ground shadows disappear for few moments every now and then, but It think that's only a temporary bug.

Agree on the shadows... there is something wrong with them even in current versions...

People will nitpick almost anything to death. I for one love the effect on the inside of the canopy.

 

As for the ground shadows, only placed 3d "objects" (such as player controled, AI units, planes etc) cast real time shadows, everything else (such as buildings and mountains) is not real time, but changes according to four predetermined settings depending on the time of day/night cycle. At least thats how it was explained by Wags in one of the earlier videos.

 

Real time shadows are extremely costly to implement, with regards to GFX performance.
