engage VSYNC again,,I took that out and if it really hammers 150fps down the pipe and the screen only uses 60Hz that could now be a problem after all the changes and fixes.

 

Please set that checkmark and give it another try....I also have time...we can look further..I dont mind...send PM and we can start again

Ok bud. Here's the whole mission.

 

 

Reviewed the gpu test, it is being slightly capped from reaching the cards max boost speed, due the preset gpu voltage for that chip. (not worth worrying about).

 

Having no activity on the Bus Interface is a problem though (Unless your GPU is just more efficient that my gtx-780.

 

Below are the PerfCap Reasons, along with a brief description to do with what is causing them.

 

vRel = Reliability. Indicating performance is limited by voltage reliability.

VOp = Operating. Indicating performance is limited by max operating voltage(Hardware Limit).

Pwr = Power. Indicating performance is limited by total power limit.

Thrm = Thermal. Indicating performance is limited by temperature limit.

Util = Utilization. Indicating performance is limited by GPU utilization.

 

green= raise power target

yellow= it wants/needs more voltage

blue= perfectly normal b/c gpu boost

grey= you have more room

 

GPU-z

 

  1. Gpu core and Gpu memory = 1645+ and 2000mhz (OK, doing what they should be at)
  2. Temp = 55 (OK)
  3. Memory used = 1818 (very low, Guess you are using low graphic settings in DCS)
  4. Gpu Load = 37% (OK)
  5. Memory controller Load = 9% (OK)
  6. Video engine load = 0% (OK, not doing any video work)
  7. Bus Interface Load = 0% (This looks odd, your running a 3d game, and there is no activity here, maybe because it is to light a load in general, If running higher load on GPU doesn't see any thing happen here, it might be you issue)
  8. Power Consumption = 45% TDP (OK)
  9. PerCap Reason = Vrel (BLUE BAR) (GPU Core Clock capped due to VDDC voltage cap)
  10. Vddc = 0.8930 (OK, This is what determines your max GPU Clock Speed, only way to get more is with an Overclock Util like MSI After burner and take it to 1.1 - 1.2 volts, but I wouldn't bother as the GPU core Clock is close to max anyways.)

I would repeat that same test, but set all dcs settings to HIGH (Anti-Alias, the works), so it loads up GPU memory with 2-3gb of textures and gives it a real work out, fly around in same mission yourself for a few minutes going near towns, etc where the FPS would drop because of excessive detail.

 

 

At full load you usually see the GPU get hotter and the fan most likely will not be able to keep it in the 55-65c range, which is where I like to keep them.

Pretty sure I had high settings, but i'll do it again and make sure.

 

If you did, run any bigger mission with more stuff in it to cause more load.

 

Mine was using 2.8gb of memory no 1.8gb.

OK, I ran two tests. Both are with the highest settings I can set. I hit the high button and left everything as is. The first test is with vsync on. The second test is with it off. It runs hotter. Still nothing in the box showing you wanted to see.

Done well, this actually all looks normal, the only thing you should be doing is upping the cooling fan to 100% when temp goes above 60 degrees, you can do this in MSI Afterburner with custom fan controls, never let the temp get over 65 degrees with 100 fan speed (Gets noisy usually), most cards don't cool adequately at full throttle due to not having the fan going at 100%, they usually wait until temp is 90+ degrees.

 

 

  1. Also would like you to check your windows power management profile, set it to High Performance for sake of test and change some values to look like those in the attached pics.
  2. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools -> Services and find the Windows Search service, double click on it and choose to: "STOP" the Service and then change the startup type to: "DISABLED".
  3. Would like to now see what each CPU cores are doing whilst doing the last tests again, pref without vsync.

 

Make it like the attached image please.

 

  • You will need to go up to the Monitor Options tab, then select Processors, and only have the 0,2,4,6 cores selected with a tick in the box and click ok when done.
  • On the left side where is shows CPU core graphs, move the slider down so only core 0,2,4,6 are shown.
  • Also click in the Average columns to show the highest using process at the top for both process and services.

If not getting same results as my picture of the 4 cpu cores, copy the attached autoexec.cfg file into: c:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\Dcs\Config\ directory and retest to see if it makes any change.

 

Report back when ready.

Let me rephrase what BuzzU and I have found out yesterday in our Teamviewer session:

 

- Asus Suite not installed, fixed

 

- old Bios, updated to recent version

 

- The CPU runs too hot by far, tho this does not affect DCS it is NOT normal that Aida64 TILTS a

CPU to 102°C and shuts it off WHEN RUNNING DEFAULT without overclock. I suspect the TIM

being badly applied. A cooler being offset would trigger that far earlier, no TIM as well.

Prime95 26.6 also tilts the CPU...that is a PURE NO-GO and does not speak for whoever put that

thing together !!! still, in DCS temps are still OK and the CPU DOES NOT throttle down ( yet ).

 

- Sounddrivers were not installed, MS default, FIXED...could have been it but wasnt.

- IRST not installed, fixed

- Kingston SSD Software missing, fixed and checked Fw, up-2-date.

- checked NV 3D settings, all was OK

- checked the PC in general, FAST, BRUTAL FAST ! just getting hot and stutter in DCS

 

- Installed MSI Afterburner and set it up ( as u can see in pics )

- Installed HWinfo to track any value of interest

- installed Aida64 Extreme, RAM Latency is HIGH 70's ns .....well, dunno, mine is 42ns, but

should not be a problem as its 2133 default. STability Test GETS TOO HOT after 90 secs.

- Installed Prime95 v.26.6 GETS TOO HOT ... even on 640k FFT's 90sec shut-off

 

I cannot fix the TIM in Teamviewer, that is BAD

 

 

And my personal tip is the SCREEN, change it and it will go away...or find a lucky setting so the gears tooth properly into each other ( my link to geforce forum, old story still valid ).

 

MAybe a Screen driver from Dell help, maybe overriding it to 59Hz or 61Hz helps,

 

Sad to see it stutter at 183fps. It plain sucks but I can almost surely say it is NOT caused by DCS's code or such, this is a hardware hiccup with timings, plain simple and most likely cannot be fixed.

 

Still, I will not give up and Teamviewer again...also to clean up my mess on his desktop HAHA

*edit: Also I have no chance without iDRAC or such IPMI stuff to go into Bios and check that one. There are a few things to check but NONE has ( from my understanding ) the potential to cause the stutter. Default mode on that board is actually ok and the only thing I would change is Voltage to ADAPTIVE and make sure the RAM does not have XMP that is unused, most defaults still have XMP settings, even tho it does noit say anywhere on the box, my 2400er DDR4 from Corsair is such, doesnt say anything but has a 2666 XMP...which I use in the 5820k SRV.

 

This thing needs a service, manual, get cooler off, reapply TIM and then try again, at the shop, WITH A DIFFERENT MONITOR, which I think is the real issue.

The only other thing I have come across on my net travels that might relate to the above by BitMaster, is to check the default timer resolution in windows.

 

Here's also a good tool I found while on my travels, that can turn off all the crap in Win 10. I used a video on YouTube to turn off all the extras in Win 10.

I doubt it but will check, usually HPET is what Win10 uses and it "usually" works damn good.

 

 

What BuzzU has as I see it is a Frametime vs. Hz battle....also as stated in your link further down the convo. 60-120-180 fps works...any inbetween causes the frametime ( 16.66ms @ 60Hz ) to wander around that value and mess things up, every single second it coughs, just fits the description like a fist on the eye ;)

Well, heat isn't the problem. I don't know why, but the CPU is now running around 53C. I ran two missions for the A-10C and the P-51 and the temps stayed cool. I'm not sure why all of a sudden. It ran 70c yesterday.

 

The problem is it still stutters running cooler, but at least I know that heat isn't the problem. I also notice the A-10C stutters less than the F-15 and the P-51D the least of all.

Good grief!! I thought i'd check the log for the last flight that ran cooler. It looks worse than ever. Look at all the errors. All seem to be tied to the terrain. Something is wrong with DCS terrain. Text is too much to post, so i deleted up to the first error. Still too long. More deleting.

I thought I would chime in on what I know that did not seem to be covered..

Yes I read the entire thread and every post so I am upto speed a bit..

 

 

I did see that Buzz' PC was overclocked to 4.5?? Now do we know if it has an aftermarket cooler or is it using the Stock one??

 

 

Also is the Overclock done by the Bios Turbo mode or was it a manual OC, If it was manually OC what is the vCore set too??

 

 

Either way if he has a stock cooler and is at 4.5ghz that is a problem as those stock heatsinks are not made to keep it cool at those OC settings.. I mean they work but are not too efficient at those OC speeds..

 

 

Also that video cards is max to a tempature 94c don't be afraid to push it up.. to at least 91c.. I show a fix for the video card..

here are the specs and it should get no where near 94c if it is something is wrong:

This is at Buzz if you are using MSI Afterburner there is a setting in there which can set the Power Limit and Temp Limit, By default the Temp limit is set to ONLY 71c and where hitting that easily and it was throttling the card.. so I would bump the setting in MSI AFterburner Power Limit to MAX and Temp Limit to MAX.. Prioritize Tempature if you want..

 

 

Also in BIOS as you have a z270 Chipset did you disable Cstates and SpeedStep?? there are a few other options that should be disabled in BIOS when OC as well maybe those are still ON..

 

 

I am a seasoned OC and while Cstates are not mandatory they do create issues when OC.ng..

 

 

I currently have a Z270 Chipset as well and run a Aftermarket cooler and run at 4.5ghz with a Kaby Lake i5 7600K.. I read a guide and have been OC for years now so I am pretty familiar with the process..

 

 

If you could let me know what Heatsink you have we could solve that issue, You would have to dump your OC to at least 4.0ghz if on a Stock Cooler..

 

 

Let me know if you have any questions ?? If you would like to meet up and we can do a test on your GPU just let me know.. you can test the GPU and make sure it stays cool enough by running MSI Kombustor they have a GPU Burn test where you can see if it is setup properly..

I have to refer to BitMaster. He's the expert who has been all over my system via Teamviewer. I asked him about the CPU being OC's to 4.5 and he said that's a standard setting Asus does. It actually read 4.3 now.

 

He did a bunch of testing yesterday and I know Kombustor was one of them. The tests really scared me when i saw the temps going over 90C, but he said it was ok for a test.

 

I have no idea what my cooler is. It's an ABC system and maybe if I call them I can find out. I'm looking at it now, but it's spinning and I can't read anything it might say on it. It looks bigger than the default. After I post this i'll shut off the system and see if I can read anything on it.

 

As I said in my last posts today. The CPU is running cool now in the 4 missions I did to test it. It still stutters, so it can't be heat. Other than the stutters it runs perfect. Even with all the graphic settings cranked to max.

 

Nobody says anything about all the errors I get in the log file. That's what I want to see go away.

 

Ok, let me go check the cooler.

the errors in the logs are not relevant to your issue, they are general errors within the engine, units, terrain and so on. I have similar errors in my logs but they are not critical or create stuttering. Some of the errors have fixes internally but need testing.

 

Good to see you are still trying, and kudos to BitMaster for helping so much.

Did you run tests on the CPU? if you did what where the tempatures like? Well the stuttering could be a few things.

 

 

I seen people post all sorts of solutions and there are many soultions 1 may work..

 

 

It is not an easy nut to crack that is for sure.. Also check the MSI Settings and see what your Temp setting is on..

Yes, As I suspected that heat sink is basically a STOCK heatsink for Intel they are OK but on Stock settings.. I would try and bump the OC down to 4.0ghz and run Intel Burn Test. I would not recommend Prime95 as that has issues with heat since Ivy Bridge..

 

 

Intel Burn test still uses linepack but you can set the stress level too "high" which should be good enough to test for stability.. I would run it 2-5passes which can be set in the program.. also monitor temps to be sure they stay withing designed limits..

 

 

If, it is still getting too Hot the cooler you have is really not good for OC. I would either bump down the OC to 4.0 or just run Stock settings until you get a new better After Market cooler..

 

 

 

 

I did see the test he ran sorry I missed that but thnx for pointing me to look.. The reason it got too hot is a known issue with P95 and newer chips since Ivy Bridge..

 

 

And plus the fact your Current heatsink is not sufficient enough to keep it cool.. Beef is better in Coolers especailly when OC..

 

 

Also was the OC set in BIOS with Turbo mode or was it manually set.. I ask because sometimes when set either way the VCore could be too high and high vCore means heat..

 

 

IF you set it too Turbo that should be sufficent but try lowering to either stock or just 4.0ghz..
