Exercise Trident (Harrier(AV8B) SP Mission

Hi All,

attachment.php?attachmentid=217168&stc=1&d=1568404924

Exercise Trident is a single player Harrier (AV8B) mission, put together with realism in mind. It caters for those of whom maybe visually impaired or using VR and those that are free time challenged. It's a simple single mission, that will take approximately forty minutes to complete. It may very well be the first in a campaign but obviously that will be dependent upon feedback.

Here is a link to the download:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1idcO_Ii17L8RZshN7j0VhZSLng6N2NGZ/view?usp=sharing

The download pack contains the mission, optional liveries and an optional mod that removes the in sim ATC voice over's. All comms take place via the F10 menu and the mission contains all the briefing materials you will need. It has step by step instruction, images, as well as voice ques whilst in flight.

Voice over's are largely unit linked , so they will require the correct tuning of radios for receipt of information and to provide a response. Please enjoy.

Thanks for sharing Sunstag

Did I understand correctly that none of the mods are mandatory to play the mission? (I'd like to keep my DCS install as 'clean' as possible to avoid instability)

System specs:

i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU

HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM

Hi sirrah,

Thanks for your interest in the mission and yes the mods are totally optional. Having said that every mod I create is rigorously tested and does not impact the core sim at all. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers.

Just tried it and liked it!

Really refreshing for a change to see mostly European air forces. And extra kudos that the Dutch are also represented :P

I especially liked the movement on and around Kutaisi AB. Made it feel more alive.

Would gladly fly more of these kind of missions. Or campaign maybe?

As for more useful feedback:

  1. Maybe you should advise people to use the F10 radio option. I discovered it by the time I already reached the active runway.
  2. After landing, I think the follow me car drove past my parking spot (and, as a good boy, I followed it to an adjacent piece of tarmac)
  3. I didn't receive any message when I destroyed the target. Got the mission complete message after landing (this could have been my fault though, as I didn't notice I had to contact JTAC)

Hi sirrah,

Thank you very much for the feedback it is hugely appreciated.

* I do include mention of the F10 menu for comms in the mission brief but based upon your feedback, I will include that detail in the on screen prompts; for clarity.

* For future missions in this series I will add a voice over that informs you to turn into your parking slot.

* The JTAC scenario is covered in both the mission brief and on screen prompts with radio messages, when you reach Anchor 26. Perhaps you missed the triggers on this one.

I am currently working on mission 2 in this series based upon CAS for helo inserted German troops.

Hey Suntsag, great mission! I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait for more! If you decide to continue posting missions in this series, know that I greatly appreciate all the effort and hard work.

I have been doing Voice overs for a couple developers. The extensive one being for HornetProductions. You have extensive comms in your missions. If you would like free voice overs let me know. I would gladly do them for you as “payment” for the great content you produce. The Harrier certainly needs more missions. If you didn’t see Baltic Dragon released a new one today as well. I am building some for the Harrier in the PG. Have not decided if I will release those or not. They are pretty simple missions, but some folks like that.

Only feedback I have is this:

When sitting in the Hanger waiting for my turn to taxi, I had time to read the brief again, and it seemed that my wingman did not want to give me the ready. I waited for at least two minutes after the A-10’s took off. Once I started rolling the wing man immediately gave me the ready. Maybe it was coincidence and he was really about to call ready at that moment? I had done all the different radio calls and the escort was ready to taxi me.

Nice Mission!

Just tried this one out and really enjoyed it. The comms were great as well as the feeling of being part of a larger package. Here's some feedback:

JTAC gives coordinates in UTM which is not functional in the Harrier at this time. Can you change it to Lat-Long? Yes, I know the target is lased at Waypoint 5, and I was able to find it, but it would still be useful to verify the target.

In my initial run-in I was unable to spot the laser with my LST, and aborted for another pass. JTAC called "Abort abort abort". I re-did the calls for IP Inbound, Spot, etc., and during that sequence I got a call from the tower directing me to landing. I guess a trigger got mixed up somewhere? I finished prosecuting the target and headed back to base, got a message to dump stores if required, then heard nothing else from the tower including freqs.

Could flight plan and target altitudes be included in the briefings?

Minor bugs really and I was able to complete the mission and enjoyed it a lot. I'll be trying it again.

Hi KTFBGB,

Thanks very much for the feedback, it is always welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the offering.

The wingman trigger is based upon Gladiator flight (The Bugs) getting airborne. I have re run the mission for further testing, to see if I can recreate what you encountered but unsuccessfully thus far.

I hasten to add, that does not mean you did not experience something different. We all know DCS can at times be a weird, yet wonderful beast.

I really appreciate your kind offer and I will definitely call on your services moving forward. Thank you.

Hi kengou,

I am really grateful for your feedback and glad you enjoyed the mission.

1. The JATC setup is the sims own version and not the CTLD option. I am therefore limited in one way but benefiting from a more detailed interaction. I am sure ED at some stage will incorporate the required Lat Long information but when, who knows. I have heard of a mod out there that provides this info but I have not looked at it in any detail, so I can't really comment.

2. I was aware of this as a potential issue, should the first attack run be aborted. I tried many options to avoid things skipping ahead out of sync. I even attempted an orbit command for the AI but they ended up wandering off to the nearest airbase. I then settled for extending their waypoints instead. It didn't resolve your issue though sorry.

3. I have included flight plan images and reference to flight levels at key points in the mission brief but I will try to make them more detailed moving forward. With the images, you are able to zoom in by clicking the mouse on it and using the scroll wheel to zoom in. You probably are already aware of that but I make reference to it for those that might not.

Thank you for the really good points you have raised and they will enable me to improve my future missions. Cheers.
