I'm hoping for general improvements as well. Especially performance. The game looks gorgeous, I love it. But I would like it to perform a bit better especially in MP.

Sounds like all former FC3 airframes are getting a sound and graphic update (esp. the cockpits) which would be extremely nice. I hope the Mig-29 will be delivered with the PFM.

Most interestingly, there has been an announcement regarding the dedicated server function we have all been waiting for.

 

 

No graphics or sound loading, so you won't need a hi-spec graphics card. Plus it will be remotely accessible via a web browser.

Agreed! I wonder with graphics and sounds removed what kind of box will be needed. I'm sure a connection with good upload is a must?

A linux dedicated server would also lower the server cost considerably!

I dont understand the newsletter and whats about to happen... kinda confused right now.

I have all aircraft and theaters in DCS including FC3 and the other aircraft mentioned in FC4.

The newsletter says i get to buy FC4 at a great discount so far i understand but now comes the part that is confusing ;

1 All these aircraft will still have clickable cockpits? (the ones that already have)

2 What happens to the Mig15, Mig21, F86, F5 etc that i already have in my list?

3 Do the clickable ones stay clickable and do they get updated graphics etc?

4 Does FC3 in my list get replaced by FC4?

Is ED planning on developing other aircraft, that are not in the current inventory, coded intentionally for this new MAC? And are the 3rd party developers going to also do these MAC only aircraft? Sounds great too me.

Instead of 3-4 year cycle to make a new aircraft, perhaps this avenue will allow many that we want here to become real. Of course ED will continue with their study sims. But these type for MAC will fund monies for further platforms etc.

I would pay for these gladly...given a reasonable price. Like 50% of a new study sim which would put them in the same price category as other sims add on aircraft...Plus these will be on a much more authentic level.

I'm confused at to how MAC compares to my ownership of FC3 + every module on STEAM including the theaters and campaigns.

Basically, if it was released on STEAM... I own that module/campaign/terrain.

The new MAC aircraft will be seperate from the full fidelity ones, if you chose to own both, they will be seperate in your install, but this release is geared towards the causal or new user instead of the hardcore veteran player.... for them we have the Hornet, and upcoming Viper, Hind and Cobra...

Ok does that mean the Mig29 and all the other aircraft are updated for the FC3 owners (cockpit graphics, AFM Mig29 etc?)

And FC3 owners will be able to fly with MAC owners in the future or we must by AGAIN MAC to still fly FC3 planes?

I think a fair trade would be FC3 owners be updated to MAC version without the new modules, keeping the former FC3 compatible with other MAC users.

For example for me is a nonsense to buy again the very same Su-25 MAC is bringing when i already have it on FC3. Except MAC will bring significative changes to the former FC3 planes.

Well that's kind of a core basic feature that makes it a dedicated server to begin with. But they promise more stuff later so that's the great news.

Keeping these FC3 updated is definitely a good cause as it prevents DCS as a whole of any age-spots, I aplaud the decision, especially when showing DCS to guests and friends, I would pick a FC3 aircraft instead of one of the full-fidelity module and let them play that a bit, did exactly that a few days ago.

But are we talking about separate full fidelity other type aircraft or same type? Like FC3 Su-27 and MAC Su-27 ?

Yes, MiG-29 in FC3 is the exact same product that will be included in full purchase of MAC, if you already have FC3, you will get a discount to upgrade your FC3 to MAC, which will only add what you dont have with FC3... hope that made sense.

Just that MAC includes extra planes such as lower-fidelity version of some of the full-fidelity ones it seems. The big thing is if the MAC airplanes are higher fidelity than FC3 level, a bit? Not quite FC4 or sort of?

Well if the FC3 planes keep getting updated, with the same name, ... hmm, so sounds/graphics/cockpit esthetics don't count much to the "fidelity level" I would suspect.

There was a FC4 thread a while ago I talked in, where I think I said ... well I have a better idea now.

I'd get rid of A-10A from the FC3 and include it free with Su-25T and TF-51D. So you get one american plane, one russian as well as one WW2 in the base game. Then there was some talk the FC3 aircraft will one day have individual full fidelity versions, and whether or not FC3 will be kept or a FC4 will come or the end of FC. Well now MAC has come, and considering it has some FC3 aircraft and promises upgrades, why keep FC3, I have nothing against FC3 or FC in general really, just throwing some ideas around. One idea is to have some kind of a 1 year cheaper upgrade from FC3 to MAC after that it'll be upgraded to MAC for free and FC3 deprecated - Or, FC3 will be kept as MAC lite version heh.

Finally, does the MAC upgrades get FC3 owners for free or when they purchase to upgrade/add MAC module ?

Ofcourse no need to answer these questions, just what I'd like to eventually know, these details seem important, not a small deal. It would be kinda good if all airplanes start having their own versioning system, even the FC3 ones, that would help with lowering confusion and differentiating.

As an example, I am really interested in the MiG-21, I think the MAC version will suit my time availability more. Certainly a place for them.

I had similar thoughts... have everything else this is the one I'd be interested in getting.

The big question is will the FC3 Mig-29 get this too? Or is this a MOC only thing? I mean i bought LockOn, all the FC and MOC is offering me nothing, so i will not buy it. I know that this module is not meant for me but to bring in some new players. Would be interesting to know what ED's update plans are for the aircraft then available in two different modules. I mean if they still update FC3 why offering a discount for FC3 owner to get MOC? Ok, if you don't have some of the other modules coming with it. You also had to upgrade the FC versions to keep going...
