Default Far From North - F/A-18C WIP Campaign

Welcome to ”Far From North”, a work in progress, story driven F/A-18C Hornet single player campaign for DCS World!

This campaign will take place in Caucasus map of DCS World and put you in a cockpit of a Finnish Air Force F/A-18C Hornet in the following fictional circumstances:

Due to rising concerns for the tensions at the Baltic Sea region, Finland has requested to be a member of NATO alliance in 2005. Being the second new member after Georgia joined in 2004, Finnish Air Force is now starting to take part in military operations as a role of a ”peacekeeper” in the southern Georgia area of operations. This is closely associated with allied cargo and second hand military flight operations and the Finnish force will therefore operate from Batumi International Airport with two visiting F/A-18C aircraft. During your ten mission long sortie in Georgia, you will encounter various different types of missions from reconnaissance flights to SAR assist, CAP and escort duties, without forgetting the carrier. The primary focus and goal in the mission design of this campaign is on realism and immersion, instead of ”all out war”- oriented situations or gameplay.

This campaign includes voice-overs, subtitles, additional radio chatter samples, F10 menu options and more. The F/A-18C aircraft module from DCS store is required to play. The first sample mission titled "The Morning Fog" from this campaign is now available to download below. Ratings and comments at the user file section as well as forums are highly welcome! Stay tuned for more, the ETA for the complete package is TBA. More information will be posted here as the mission build is progressing.

Please note that this is a trigger based mission/campaign that requires you to navigate and operate in a fairly precise manner and also requires you to land and taxi your aircraft back to your starting point for a mission success.

I also made a quick webpage to keep things tidy:

Looking forward to hear your feedback! Thanks for flying and of course sorry for my second language!

EDIT: Changed campaign time/year to better suit the mission content and other aircraft involved in the missions (ie. F-14 & S-3 still in operation).

I just flew this and really enjoyed it. The tasking seems realistic and the voice overs were really immersive. I'm looking forward to the full campaign!

Spoiler:
One thing to note though, as I approached Batumi, having followed waypoints 7, 8 and 9 at as close to 6000ft as I could, Magic and Colt 6 began conversing about SAM's and 4x missile launches. I didn't get launched at once, during the mission or whilst egressing, so I'm not sure what was supposed to happen there? Will try and have another look.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

Spoiler:
There should be a little vicious surprise coming in on your way back home but apparently it has not triggered in your case. I will take a look into this asap and also disable the chat in case it does not happen. Thanks for this info too, really appreciate!

daemonicus, I had a quick look in the mission file (I hope that's okay?) after playing again, see the spoiler for my thoughts.

Spoiler:
I didn't get shot at the second time playing through, so went into the mission editor and saved a copy with the SA13 showing on the F10 map. I took off and flew straight to your 'AI On' trigger zone for the SAM unit, then at 6000ft flew wp7 to 8 to 9 several times, keeping an eye on the SA13 unit with the F7 camera. I had no RWR indications either. I think that at 6000ft the aircraft is below the line of sight for the SAM, as soon as I made a pass at 9000ft I was lit up with it's search radar and immediately engaged, and suddenly had to fumble for countermeasures! Hope this helps.

Cheers

Many thanks mate! Indeed it seems the altitude was the issue here. I have updated the mission to V1.1 and added Magic to instruct you to climb and maintain angels 10 until WP9. Thanks again for your feedback!

Flew it a few times, quite nice!

Atmosphere was ... a bit quiet.. But the "NATO chatter" did add something to it.
Still, it was a bit lonely, quiet.

First time I was surprised on the way home, died without noticing anything.
then a I survived but died later.. third time I didn't find "it" anymore.

Fourth time I was slightly off track, and didn't overfly the threat and landed, was there supposed to be some kind of "Mission successful" message?

I tried to taxi to the position where I started, next to the tanker and those 3 infantry-guys, but didn't get anything.

And some finnish

Meitä on jo yli 150 (eiku yli 180!!) siellä! https://discord.gg/eN3YTuW
(Discord for mostly Finnish speakers - other are ofc welcome)
