The_Tau
As spitfire is slowest from all prop fighters, one way to counter it is to be higher then enemy. However I got huge problems spotting planes on the terrain background. Usually only way for me to spot something which is below me is watching for tracer fire, usually over ground units and diving from 15k to 0 is quite wasteful... Any tips for spotting which i missed? Or just "Git gud" with spotting... Tau's Youtube channel Twitch channel https://www.twitch.tv/the0tau

Art-J
Not much can be done about it at the moment I guess. However, Normandy testers report somewhat better target visibility with new lighting engine, so there's hope for improvement. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10. Perfesser
I hear spotting will get much better once 1.5 and 2 are merged. Try to be patient for now.

See the massive thread here on this subject https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157129 I use the labels mod, and, although far from perfect, it certainly improves my experience. philstyle
Spotting in DCS is a nightmare. Don't think your doing something wrong. You can get better at it over time... but.... it's still limited compared to other sims in my opinion. I would suggest that in any sim, having a larger scren (physical monitor size) helps, provided you don't increase the resolution. Alos, it sounds/ looks like this is much improved for the new map/ lighting release. WildBillKelsoe
did you buff up your object size? in settings? AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. OnlyforDCS
did you buff up your object size? in settings? If the server or mission doesn't support it, you can't do that. Most single player missions (and campaigns) or servers dont. philstyle
did you buff up your object size? in settings? No. If the server has modified the "icons" then you can rely on those, but there is no way for the player to manipulate the object size when online. As per other flight sims, my "go to" tips are: 1. Buy/ use as-large-as-you-can-afford monitor (physical monitor size) 2. Stick to lower resolutions (i.e. 1920x1080) without making the graphics too ugly (below 1920x1080 gets too ugly) 3. Use minimal anisotropic filtering (x2 is OK) 4. Fly "zoomed out" when trying to spot distant contacts and when trying to maintain your S.A. in combat 5. Use "zoom in" functions to try and ID contacts, once you've spotted them On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/philstylenz Storm of War WW2 server website: https://stormofwar.net/

BuzzU
Explain why minimal anisotropic is better. Mine is at 16x. It seems to help take away flashing mips. Buzz
Screamadelica
Target visibility seemed to be an issue in real life as well. When filming the Battle of Britain movie "the Spitfires, Hurricanes, Messerschmitts, and Heinkels were repainted into authentic 1940 colors, but were so perfectly camouflaged, that they could not be seen against the ground or sky. Most of the aerial scenes were filmed with clouds in the background, so the aircraft could be seen."
