Spamraams - Hornet

if you want to go that route,

you forgot the weight of the SUU-79, and the AIM-120C Warheads

Good point about the AIM-120C/warhead(I just used the weight of the AIM-120B). But the SUU-79? :) .

AFAIK the "legacy" Hornets use two different variants of the SUU-63:

- SUU-63/A (273 lbs)for the A/B

- SUU-63A/A (310 lbs) for the C/D

Isn't the SUU-79(and SUU-80) strictly for the Super Hornet?

So:

1x SUU-79 = 350

1x BRU/32 = 79

1x LAU-115C = 120

2X LAU-127A = 87 * 2 = 174

2x AIM-120C = 348 or 356 w/ Warhead depending on Block, we'll assume Block IV or Newer so 356 * 2 = 712

So, Grand total Of: 1435 lbs

Well if you want to go that route :D . I think we both got some of the weights a little wrong. According to the NATOPs, the following racks/launchers are compatible with the "legacy" hornets ;

two versions of the BRU-32;

- BRU-32/A - 76 lbs

- BRU-32A/A - 76 lbs

three versions of the LAU-115

- LAU-115/A (compatible only with two LAU-7s/AIM-9) - 52 lbs

- LAU-115A/A (compatible with two LAU-7s/AIM-9s or two LAU-127s with AIM-9s/AIM-120s) - 59 lbs

- LAU-115C/A (compatible with two LAU-7s/AIM-9 or two LAU-127 with AIM-9s/AIM-120s) - 97 lbs

LAU-127A/A - 95 lbs

But anyway, the point was that a complete dual AMRAAM assembly is pretty heavy(and draggy), so as neofightr said, going into the merge with a full load of four is probably not a good idea :) .

Sorry, was working on SuperBug Stuff when I posted,

SUU-63 is Correct,

SUU79/80 are the Low Drag Versions for Super Hornet.

If You're heading into the merge, best thing to do is either fire them off, and hope for a hit, or jettison them and the LAU115C+LAU-127As

Ok no problem :)

Yeah and I believe they have a higher load capacity too.

Yeah I guess :) . But while such a "spamraam" loadout is perfectly possible, I doubt that such a use was the intention behind the dual assembly - I suspect it had more to do with providing a reasonable "self escort" capability, while conserving as many stations as possible for A/G ordinance/mission pods - i.e. for loadout flexibility.

Unofficial lore is you'll only see the 10 X AMRAAM load when the Ticonderoga/Arleigh Burke's are out of SAMS and you feel like the group needs defense.

It is an official load out, but you aren't going far or fast with it. It also makes for great photo ops.

Munitions stock limits on the carrier as well as the constant fuel shortage issues with the C Hornet are likely to prevent 12 Slammers being carried pretty much ever IMHO.

The Drag + only 1 Bag.

Don't Expect a lot of Loiter time,

Basically, Launch/Takeoff, Lock Targets, maneuver, launch AIM120s, turn around, RTB.

Yeah you're not going very far. But if you avoid using AB all the time and fly at 15k or so, you can increase your range a bit.

I guess we will find out if that's a good loadout or not.

We could also use two fuel tanks, one on the centerline and on the inner pylon. Hornets seem to like asymmetrical loadouts.

If I'm facing anti-ship missile spam, then I want to be a Spaamraaming missile truck - the drag and weight aren't a huge issue probably.

Does the hornet have a suitable weapon to deal with launched anti ship missiles? Or is the concern only the offending launcher?

Yes, it has AMRAAMs. They are tested against low-flying missiles and have demonstrated hit-to-kill capability against such targets.

That of course brings up the question if „our“ Lot 20 Hornet and its radar will support that capabiluty:music_whistling:

It is certainly possible right now with F-15's etc. The problem is that the missiles right now are too stealthy and the longer detection modes of the radar are just not there :)

My suspicion is it will make more sense to go with 4-6 AMRAAMS (1-2 on each outer underwing station and 2 on fuselage), 2 Sidewinders (wingtips), 2 bags (inner underwing stations) and an ATFLIR (centreline station.)

I imagine ATFLIR would be useful (assuming it has AA mode) for keeping track of notching bandits, and the 2 bags should give decent loiter time.

I imagine ATFLIR would be useful

Absolutely, for both A2A to visually ID bogies, and A2G to scout for targets and direct munitions.

You know, a spamaraam Hornet is going to be great for the people online who fly in multiship formations.

Mix of people with lighter loads for dogfighting and others being missile trucks. Couple with the data link....

I can see some interesting tactics being used in tournaments like the Red Flag Rumble.

I was scanning the skies for EtherealN and his BANRAAM for a few of the posts in this thread

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

I assume a fully loaded 18 could keep up with the rest of the flight, but will the flight be slowed down to the point of not covering enough ground? And if it does keep up at a normal speed, will it have the endurance to stay around..
