Intel RST 16.5 "freeze" bug

Recommended Posts

I had this annoying freeze that locks up the whole rig for a few seconds and then goes on as if nothing ever happened, even DCS stays connected in MP etc. It happened randomly, maybe once every 2 days, sometimes 3x a day.

I assumed my 2nd HDD was going bad and acting up, so I postponed it until I redo the drives..BUT...as I read on the net ( overclockers.com forum ) this is a WELL KNOWN bug in Intel's RST driver 16.5 with Win10 1803 and 1809.

The fix is either, role back to an older version ( NOT advised if you run 1803 or newer as driver structure changed and you may break more than you fix ) - or - download the newest, yet unofficial, 16.7.1.1012 driver that cures it.

You have to search the usual websites to get that driver. Intel does not yet have it listed.

how annoying, the new driver made it even worse, had 3 freezes last 2h watching YT. I may try the older version that had no issues, prior 1803.

This really sucks. BRRRRRRRR for 4 seconds is grrrhhh !

This is partly why I wouldnt pick an Intel platform of today.

  • 9 months later...

to revive this, the bug is still present with the latest IRST driver of July 2019.

I tried EACH one that Asus has released for my Z370 mobo from signature and EACH one had the same issue. Still need to revert to 16.2 as that is the newest driver that doesnt BRRRRRR and freeze the whole PC for a couple seconds, like 2-10 seconds...and then goes on as if nothing ever happened.

Intel ? WTF are you doing

BTW, MS wants you to install at least 15.5 for the May 2019 Win10 upgrade...but Win10 doesnt see it as installed. WTF ??? ( https://www.tomshardware.com/news/windows-10-may-2019-update-issues-intel-driver,40046.html )

Those new platforms and Win10, ALL TO THE TRASH !!!!

None performs as advertised, Intel has bugs all over the place, AMD cheats with PBO2 on R3000 MHz frequency ( lets call it the fastest mouse pusher CPU ), I could go on ....
