Dirt, Nails....and Jester Call outs

Hi all,

this question might be dump, but me as little Tomcat novice trying to understand what jester is talking about.

So is there something like a "Jester translation table?".

Of course I know what "bandit" "tally "bandit" and rocket means, but as beginner some Jester callouts are hard to interprete.

Thanks for your help.

Google "brevity code"!

It's a living document, codes are added and dropped or their meaning changed.

You might therefore come across misunderstandings because of people using different versions of it.

Latest revision as far as I know was 2017, newest publicly available versions are around ten years older.

Well he still often sais Singer when there's just Dirt...

Very unlikely. The singer is most likely picked up farther away or not properly. Or can you reproduce that?

Mixing dirt for singer would be a new bug to me.

Thanks!

@Matic Prime, if you like you can use my squadron's brevity codes, which more than suffice for DCS. The entire brevity list is way too extensive, and this one is nicely condensed to what appears in game:

I dont have to be an expert on brevitys to recognize that the pdf have many code described in not best way, sometime even missleading description.

Examples: "BOGEY DOPE: Request for target information as briefed/available." what about BRAA?

"MILITARY POWER: The maximum possible thrust from the engines WITHOUT afterburner." - NOT CORRECT - its "BUSTER" call

Best is to seek for non DCS(other sim) player edited version:

For expample this unclassified pdf doc:

The abbreviated brevity list above does not alter explanations, just leaves out unnecessary brevity. Mil Power and Buster are the same and coexist with each other. Bogey dope is what it says it is, if you would read the document, you would see that BRAA is mentioned as well. BRAA btw is the response for a bogey dope request, not the same, and again, all explanations are taken from the multiservice brevity list.

You are claiming falsehoods if you say mil power is not correct. So, please don't confuse folks, if, as you say, you are not an expert yourself.

My problem with Jester is when I'm turning and he says nails 6 o'clock and in reality is 9 or 3 depending on the turn since its the way the RWR its working.

When he does these types of calls I'm always like, its really behind me? I always get more confused than if he doesn't say anything.

What's a real RIO gonna do? Use complex trigonometry in combination with a best guess of the positions of each radar antennae to calculate a corrected approx. position?

He's only calling the info his RWR is giving him, saving you from doing the same and allowing you to keep your head out of the cockpit in a furball and not at glued to your RWR scope.

It's up to you to know when that info is going to be reliable or not based on your flight attitude, the recent history of RWR contacts from your last scan of the RWR, and taking the opportunity to obtain a brief mental snapshot of the RWR picture when you your flight attitude will allow you a reasonably accurate picture.

SA is a bitch, huh?
