Ambiguous contacts on radar

I was under the impression that triangle shaped contacts were TWS bugged ones? :noexpression:

Contacts are contacts and tracks are tracks. If it's a white brick then it's a contact, simple position symbol. Tracks are velocity objects. RWS only shows contacts. TWS and STT only shows tracks (TWS contact is meaningless). SAM is a mixture of track(s) and contacts.

European Participating Air Forces (EPAF) and other F-16s (e.g. USAF) do or used to do different in terms of track display shape. I believe EPAF have always done squares and early USAF had triangle tracks but should be squares for CM variant in DCS.
