Shtahel Posted September 8, 2016 Share Posted September 8, 2016 (edited) A Finnish soldier sits in a Soviet single seater Yak-9 fighter of the 29 Gv.IAP, 275 IAD, 13th Air Army, which crashed landed near Lappeenranta in Finland on August 30 1944 (photo taken on September 2 1944) It's occupants were, Pilot Lt. Mikhail Volkov and his "passenger" Sub Lt. V.M. Titorenko who were both taken prisoner by the Finns. The story goes that they were both possibly defecting to 'the other side'. Titorenko hid in the storage compartment of the plane and after the end of the hostilities between Finland and the Soviet Union, they were both repatriated. (Continuation War 25 June 1941 – 19 September 1944 (3 years, 2 months, 3 weeks and 4 days) On 4 September 1944, the cease-fire ended military actions on the Finnish side. The Soviet Union ended hostilities exactly 24 hours after the Finns. An armistice between the Soviet Union and Finland was signed in Moscow on 19 September.
