HP Reverb: 1080Ti or 2080? (Or even AMD?)

Hi, looking to get a Reverb. Currently have a R5-2600/32GB/1070.

I'm a sucker for smooth edges and details, so in VR, and with the Reverb in particular, going from 1070 to 1080Ti any good or should I rather go for 2080 straight away?

Does somebody have benchmark values for either of these setups?

If you can stand it get a 2080ti for sure. I have already upgraded to 2080ti from 1080ti and I intend to go for Reverb as well, NLT next January. I assess that Reverb will satisfy your hunger for smooth edges and details, than any other VR set.

Schocker...:pilotfly: my ole' EVGA Nividia 980 GTX + Reverb runs buttersmooth on an i7-4770 16Gb.

However with my Valve Index, same setup, same mission, same settings DCS is a stuttering nearly unplayable.. Does SteamVR do something weird?

Given my current setup, upgrading to a 1080Ti + faster CPU+ Reverb = ultra settings in DCS and smooth.

met vriendelijke groet,

2080 is not really an upgrade on the 1080Ti performance wise, except that it has RTX and DLSS support (both features probably useless for DCS) and 2080 Super is only slightly faster than 2080.

2080Ti would be noticeably faster, but it's way too expensive for what you get, IMHO.

So, it really depends on what deals you can find. A used 1080Ti/2080/2080 Super still under warranty would be a best buy, I guess.

Try first, then decide if and which GPU to get. Maybe none.

I see some reports on how Reverb is not working on AMD GPU. It is not confirmed yet but needs to be taken into consideration. If there is a problem with drivers will be fixed but looks like a possible problem right now.

Also, a very important thing is releasing new graphic cards this year based on Navi 12 which will be in the performance range of 2080Super and 2080ti.

This already affecting on GPU market and will be even more after releasing. Nvidia will definitely significantly lowering the price to 2080ti and already announcing next-gen card based on 7nm technology what implicating a significant gain of performances. We are talking about a period of 6 to 8 months.

Right now the only gain is 2080Super and 2080ti. Gain is not that big as an investment in it especially when in 6 to 8 months you will have on disposal 3080ti minimum 20% more powerful GPU than 2080ti and for same or fewer monies you will pay for 2080ti now.

You're probably right. :)

I can confirm the reverb does not work with AMD video cards, driver issue blue screens PC.

have raised with AMD waiting for a driver update to fix. They do not give a timeline tho...

I have tried with a vega 64 and a 5700XT

Im looking at changing to a 1080TI as well.

1080ti and Reverb, in dcs produces pretty good performance for me, I have to turn shadows and mirrors off in game. for bigger missions i turn off shadows and mirrors

Broadly this:https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1080-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/3918vs3603

However, a lot depends on cpu in this game

1080Ti (Evga SC2) and an old ass i5-4690k here, new Reverb user. I wouldn't say it works flawlessly for me, I think i'm at the limit of being CPU bottlenecked. I have a 3800X sitting on my desk but got cucked by amazon on the motherboard. Said it'd be here 4 days ago "guaranteed shipping"... won't be here till saturday.

Anyways, If I turn everything down (ie clutter and the other things that don't matter) and set SteamVR SS to 100%, and PD to 1.0 I can get a respectable 50-60 frames solid, sometimes peaks out to 70. I couldn't really tell that much of a difference for about an hour or two worth of testing. I'm just now playing around with reprojection to see how it goes, if I can get a solid 45 frames and increase the res/eye candy slightly I'll be happy I think.

Oddly, I've found that sometimes going back to desktop, opening up MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X1, and hitting "default" to reset it (even if nothing was changed) nets a decent performance boost for some stupid reason. Boosting Voltage/Power limit seems to create more problems than it solves, but the problem only seems to appear in DCS.

System: Intel 14700k on MSi z690 DDR4 pro, Arctic Liquid Frozer II 360mm AIO, 64gb ddr4-3600mhz CL16, Gigabyte 4090

VR: Quest 3 (Current), HP Reverb G1 (Shelved)

What helped me getting a very smooth experience with the Reverb on my i7-7700K with 1080Ti and 32 GB RAM was switching the Experience Options in the Windows Mixed Reality Settings of the Windows 10 Settings app from 90Hz to 60Hz. This essentially allows reprojection to kick in already at 30 FPS instead of only at 45 FPS. If you are not sensitive to the lower refresh rate, this may be a viable approach to improve your experience with the Reverb.

I am using Steam SS at 150% (everything below does not look better to me than my Rift S), DCS PD set to 1.0, DCS graphics options all set to high, civil traffic to medium, heat blur and dirt and flare options to off, MSAA and SSAA both off, shadows both to flat, AA X16, global illumination and rain droplets on.

Reverb + Radeon VII user here. My setup works perfectly, not sure which AMD cards you are referring to.

As I said, that is with a Vega 64 and 5700XT.

Put a Nvidia card in the system all works ok. Have spoken to HP and AMD and they have confirmed the issue.

what CPU are you using and driver version??

You are the first person I have seen that the reverb works with an AMD card.

there are a number of people reporting this issue world wide as well.

There, I copied/pasted everything.

Didn't mean to upset or contradict anybody, just stating that mine works fine. Vega 64 and a 5700XT are not the only AMD cards out there ;)

Mind you, I have not updated since long, never fix what is not broken..

Thanks for that.

When I was troubleshooting with AMD they said go back to an earlier driver but 19.7 was as far back as I could find a driver for.

Im going to try to find 19.3.1 like you are using and try that. if that works i will be stoked.

Thanks for the info.
