As the title says, here is a direct quote from Wags 2.5 update:

Current regions to battle include the Caucasus, Nevada Test and Training Range, and Normandy 1944. New maps in development include the Persian Gulf, Syria, Afghanistan, and others.

-Col. Russ Everts opinion on surface-to-air missiles: "It makes you feel a little better if it's coming for one of your buddies. However, if it's coming for you, it doesn't make you feel too good, but it does rearrange your priorities."

Afghanistan alone is going to be so worth it... Russo-Afghan war in the '80s, and the US in the '00s.

We can use a lot of DCS inventory in those alone. And, the Mi-24 will be right at home there.

I'm excited for Syria map. :D

Considering that there's a lot of updated Russian hardware flying around, this could also be a great chance for ED to give us some slightly newer versions of our current 27s, 29s, 25s. ;)

(... I know, but one can dream).

I hope Incirlik AB in Turkey is part of the Syrian map and Patriot Village is modeled so I can fly over where I stayed during my deployment there a couple years ago lol.

Well I think the Syria map could go 1 of two ways... It could take a more modern route and model the Syrian Civil War, thus including Icirlik or it could go a more Arab-Israeli War route and be a phantom playground! Although it could (hopefully) be both! F-4's and F-15's or even A-4's over the Bekka Valley would be amazing!!

I wonder if a Syria map could be bolted onto the current Caucasus map? So if you own both -

they are both connected. Although I am probably talking utter nonsense.

And an Afghanistan map, well could we not do the same thing with the SoH map?

Modules I own: F-14A/B, Mi-24P, AV-8B N/A, AJS 37, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.

Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas.

As the title says, here is a direct quote from Wags 2.5 update:

thats good to know, However im not actually "surprised" about some of these

ED had already had some of these maps like A-Stan announced for the TBS, the Commercial/ Professional Grade version of DCS. It only makes sense that they decide to create these maps ( or port) them for the Consumer version ( DCS) since the community will certainly welcome maps where actual conflicts have taken place.

Last time I checked I believe there were a "couple" of other countries in Afghanistan alongside the US... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participants_in_Operation_Enduring_Freedom
