rocketeer
from the above mission briefing, I know 132 is the VHF AM for ATC, 251 is UHF AM, 40.6 is the FM. Any idea what is the 261 and 4.3 MHz for? I am trying understanding details in briefings. There is always more frequencies than I can figure out. How can we reach out to ED or developers if no one can answer our questions? Emmy
Your 251.000 is the freq your radio will come up on when you spawn. 261.000 should be the UHF freq for the field. Pretty sure the 4.300 is for Russian radios. rocketeer
Emmy, thanks for the info. I know 261 is in the UHF range. But when I start the mission, my plane's already tuned to 251 by itself and i can talk to my wingman on 251. If I use 261 he may not be monitoring that frequency as he's using 251 to respond to me. I guess it's an alternate UHF for emergency? As for 4.3 being for russian radios, the mission is for a10c which has no equipment to monitor that range of frequency. So isn't it irrelevant to list the red side's frequency that we can't monitor? My A10C cockpit thread
Ramsay
Emmy, thanks for the info. I know 261 is in the UHF range ... I guess it's an alternate UHF for emergency? As Emmy explained, the frequencies listed are valid for Senaki-Kolkhi i.e. Senaki-Kolkhi ATC can be contacted on 132 MHz, 261 MHz, 40.6 MHz or 4.3 MHz In the case of the A-10C, you would use either 132 MHz (VHF) or 261 MHz (UHF) to contact Senaki-Kolkhi ATC If your flight was being escorted by an F-5 (which only has a UHF radio), the F-5 would use 251 MHz to contact your flight and change to 261 MHz to contact ATC - it's not really an option for emergency, just an alternative frequency. As for 4.3 being for russian radios, the mission is for a10c which has no equipment to monitor that range of frequency. So isn't it irrelevant to list the red side's frequency that we can't monitor? The briefing is generalised, it tells you all the available frequencies available at Senaki-Kolkhi, a player's mission might use Russian aircraft or be MP/co-op with blue using a mix of western and Russian aircraft. Your A-10C and wingmen in your 'group' are tuned to 251 MHz, it's the frequency to use to command the AI to 'Attack my target', RTB, etc. Edited June 12, 2019 by Ramsay i9 9900K @4.7GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 10 Pro x64, 1920X1080
rocketeer
Ramsay, thanks for your input! I always thought UHF is just for comms with wingmen only. Didn't know one would also use UHF to contact ATC. Thought we always use VHF AM to contact tower only. LOL. Also thanks for the info about why the frequency for russian radio is included. Now all these make sense. Appreciate it! My A10C cockpit thread
Emmy
In the 476th, we use UHF to contact ATC and Tankers. VHF AM is usually for AWACS (and theater wide comms so we can hear/talk to our 510th Hornets) and VHF FM is usually for intra-flight comms. rocketeer
You guys taught me a couple of things. 1. You can also use UHF to contact ATC 2. Use you UHF to contact tanker, which I thought it's VHF AM 3. You can use VHF FM for intra-flight comms, which I thought it's only UHF, so 4. VHF FM is not just for JTAC, can be for comms with your flight buddies too So there is no set rules that you only use a certain radio to contact a certain group. Eddie
Real world UHF is used for most inter flight, AWACS and other C2, Tankers, ATC, and FAC. VHF is generally used for intra flight. VHF/FM is pretty much exclusively used for JTAC comms. The reason for this is that, in addition to the UHF bands being less “busy”, UHF radios have the Havequick Anti-Jam functionality.
