VIXEN413
Hey guys, Small updates... So, I ve been tinkering and decided, before shaping this throttle set out from the aluminium block, to mold in in Polyurethane resin. So I ve completed my shapes study and moved along to get a second PU FOAM model of the throttles. It sands easy and once I m happy, I just reinforce it with cyano glue. I also do corrections with bondo and once done will put some surface cuz I ll use that piece as a positive to make a silicon mold. The molded piece will be then cut to split both throttles and place the switches eand so on. Great crafting job too hehe I plan on to pour next week.... VIXEN413
The positive is done. Now to mold it in silicon... Ran out of silicon so I m waiting a new shipment... VIXEN413
Small update, Got some resin molded and some work on the handles. I made a few so if anything goes wrong, I can revert to another cast... OTTO buttons fits great, the red one is a virpil button to check the diameter that is slightly different. This buttons have the same diameter then the 5way switches so I know how to swap them... More further. Regards... FordPrefect
Looks great! Are you casting solid resin and drilling out the cavities or did you cast it with voids?
VIXEN413
I m drilling them. tried to shape some foam to use as insert in the mold to save on PU resin but to get the right shape then was a nightmare. Don't want to create any weak spot due to lack of matter. I also have to redo the top of the throttle as my blade slid and cuted sideways. I m doing all freehand without a jig (I know, I know) but that's how I ve always been modelling... FordPrefect
That makes good sense to drill out the voids. As far as the freehand cut, since you molded the handle in one piece you probably have a little bit of room to clean up what you have and still get the 1/8" spacing when they are mounted. This is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

TomVR
recognized my switches ;) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3452944 They were eyeballed from my superhornet throttle I have, Though I see you aren't using the pyramid for the top switch I did a really rough photogrammetry scan of it https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/fa-18-super-hornet-throttle-grips-741c3b6d01314ed6b7897d1103d8b15a
VIXEN413
hey there, yes, found that thingverse file while digging for those switches. Thanks for putting the effort. Indeed, no pyramid for top switch as it is, as you mention, for a superbug while we simulate the "C" in DCS. as I have all the files I can print the pyramid too if I prefer hehe. Same for the TDC, I m using this one on the pics as the "Spider" broke just at the base of the axis while I was fiddeling with them. I was looking at the layers in my slicer where the axle links with the hat itself and found out that there might not be enough matter there to get a proper strenght (might be my PLA) but nothing a bit of epoxy cant solve... I ll also shorten the axles as they will fit on top of the Virpil switches so I dont need such lenght. for proper throw. lots of fun with such a project... thanks to you, I m one step further BR!
