SA Magazine is proud to announce the launch of 'SA Battles', a new Multiplayer combat league starting this month as a SA Rankings official T.M.C event (Tactical Mission / Campaign).

DESCRIPTION :

SA-Battles has been created to give the multiplayer community more events and the chance to work as part of a large scale organized coalition with realistic objectives and missions.

Events will be split into 2 different formats.

First is the traditional Red vs Blue with both teams having equal air and ground assets just like previous OPFOR events.

The second format will mirror the real world Red Flag operation as close as possible with an outnumbered RedFor taking on an extremely capable BluFor. RedFor pilots for the Red Flag events will be invited to compete based on SA rankings and Squadron performance to take on the best of the rest in a fight outnumbered at least 2to1 with a very clear objective..... defend!

The event missions will be large scale and engineered to replicate modern day air war objectives. Both sides in all SA-Battle events will be fully complimented with EWR and AWACS assets from the off. We have chosen to steer away from the traditional 'Target Area' set up for SA-Battles, instead the ground war will exclusively focus on the SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defence)assets and EWR stations. The 'air war' is all about total air supremacy over friendly ground stations and the protection of AWACS and Tanker assets, this results in both teams having to plan very carefully in the assignment of CAPs and managing the number of aircraft available during the 4 hour competition.

Red and Blue sides will both be lead by a Force Commander (FoComm) the selection of the FoComm will be done on an application basis through the new SA forum.

SA Battles Round 1 :

For our first event we are very excited to be teaming up with the 104th Phoenix who will host the one day event on the squadrons dedicated server.

Due to the delay in the release of FC3 we have taken the decision to host the first event in FC2 on Sunday the 21st of October, 1900Z, However, should FC3 be released before the event date we shall postpone the event to test the stability of FC3 and all being well we will then continue to host the event in FC3.

The future for SA-Battles is all FC3/DCSWorld giving pilots from all over the world flying in various high fidelity aircraft the chance to regularly test those skills in a high threat multiplayer environment that demands team work and professionalism for victory!

RULES:

- 1 life per pilot.

- Only 1 re-spawn available to the event due to troubleshooting, loss of connection, unable to refuel/rearm (must land on runway though), if falling victim to a teamkill or been rammed on base (mid-air collision will count as a loss regardless of the circumstances).

- Sneaking up on bandits using terrain masking, getting within 20km/12 miles off a bandit or sudden dogfights must be immediately broadcasted on the main coalition TS channel along with your bullseye position, altitude and distance to target. Being teamkilled while failing to do so will not give you a second chance and will discharge your teamkiller.

- Maintenance of your hardware, connection checks and a fresh reboot minutes before committing is highly recommended.

- Depending on your config and connection, you may need to lower your in-game graphics options for better FPS experience. Medium Profile should put you in the right direction.

- 50% penalty on earned points for every guilty teamkill regardless of its circumstances.

- RTB is a mandate, leaving the server when hit, engaged or unable to make it back will result in being banned from the next event.

- Pilots must use the left side of the runway for takeoff and landing, points will be deducted for reckless behavior.

- Emergency landings (damaged, glider) must be posted on chat allied channel along with the final approach heading, base name and ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival).

- Stock payloads only : No weapons mod.

PHILOSOPHY

SA Battles missions are not for the light hearted and will take careful planning and execution to succeed (especially A2G). SA Battles is for serious simmers who want to test their skills in an environment with realistic flight times to and from targets and CAP area's.

Pilots for A2G will be faced with some really tough sorties due to the range of the mission and will have to coordinate with fighters to allow them to approach the furthest targets at High / Medium altitude. There will be no separation between the ground battle and the air battle, all players will be in the heart of the action. It's needless to mention how important teamwork and coordination will be in such conditions.

SA Battles is not for newbies sadly, anyone who doesn't know how to manage fuel or plan a sortie carefully is not going to succeed. SA Battles will not only test a pilots flying skill but it will also test his endurance and ability to manage his aircraft, there will be no quick sorties in SA Battles. The minimum flight time for a ground target is a 1 hour sortie so planning must be made in advance regarding routing, fighter cover and target elimination.

To spice up things even more, the battle will be partially fought in pitch dark, night time sorties will actually be scheduled during the last part of the mission. That obviously supposes living long enough to admire and survive the beautiful sunset :)

Let's not be mistaken gentlemen, SA Battles offer the most grueling test of MP pilot skill to date. So, are you up to the challenge ?

RATING AND SCORING SYSTEM

Pilot's performance will be rated based on 3 factors :

- Target destruction : pretty straight forward, every destroyed target will get you points according to its value.

- Pilot/aircraft Status : Either pilot and aircraft both OK or NOT.

- Battle final result : 3 possible scenarios : VICTORY, DEFEAT or DRAW.

SA points scoring wise:

- Main SA points for the 'event rank' will be based on 'target destruction' points.

- Bonus SA points for the 'bonus rank' will be based on 'Status' and 'battle result' as below :

Event personal points X [ 2 if survived ( X 0 if not) + 2 if won battle ( X 0 if not)].

Bonus points are here to encourage teamwork as winning the battle, as a team, gives even additional bonus points for every team member.

Example to showcase the importance of bonus points :

- Pilot A scores 50 personal points, before getting shot down, own team also lost the battle.

50 points gave him let's assume 3rd event rank.

now regarding the bonus points : 50 X (0 + 0) = 0 points (did not survive and team lost) this gave him lets say 13th best bonus rank which gives 4% of SA bonus points only.

Total SA points for pilot A using the SA points breakdown (let take C category for instance) would be :

500 (main points for 3rd event rank) + (500 X 4%) = 520 SA points.

- Pilot B scores only 20 personal kills related points, but managed to survive the mission and even win the battle.

20 points gave him let's assume 4th event rank.

now regarding the bonus points : 20 X (2 + 2) = 80 points (survived and team won) this gave him lets say 2nd best bonus rank which gives 75% of SA bonus points.

Total SA points for pilot A using the SA points breakdown (let take C category for instance) would be :

400 (main points for 4th event rank) + (400 X 75%) = 700 SA points.

As you can see, pilot B ended up scoring more SA points event though he had less 'kills'.

Bottom line is kills are necessary to get points anyway but killing while surviving and winning the battle will bring even more points.

We've got an almost fully booked roster !

Last reminder for those who have not registered at SA forums yet : http://www.sa-sim.com/wp-content/forums/index.php

Please do it asap so I can add you to the planning rooms. (please use exact same name as the one on the 1st page's roster so I can ID you!)

Something personal came up suddenly and will force me to be absent from tomorrow morning until Saturday, so either I add you tonight or on Saturday which will be the day before the event's kick-off.

Planning rooms will be accessible in an hour or so for those who have already registered at SA forums.

Sign-up will close on the 18th so anyone joining on the last couple of days will have to wait until Saturday to get access to the planning rooms unless you do it today before I leave. Thank you for your understanding !

EDIT : Planning rooms are now accessible to registered players.
