Some Questions about DCS:WWII

Having only recently found out about DCS:WWII, I've been stalking through the forums trying to find out all I can about it, and I'm left with a few concerns..

 

There's several aircraft coming out that excite me, like the jug of course, but looking through VEAO's roadmap there's a lot of aircraft that just don't make any sense.

 

The P-40 coming out next month is modeled on the P-40F from 1941, there's the F-8F, the P-36(!), and with the assistance of Polychop, the Horten 229, among others.

 

There's a lot of great aircraft in the list, but there's very few that make sense to the theatre and timeframe. What's with all the bench fodder?

VEAO is not making DCS WW2.

Bf 109K-4

Spitfire Mk IX

P-47D

Me-262

ED has a theater on "Low priority", no updates about them long time ago (last was request about info of north france airfields 2014-8), the "Normandy / North France 1944" Theater, but someone dont expected them to 2015. More realistic will have 2016-18 timeline. VEAO talk about a North Africa – Tubruq (1942). Has some rumours to a WW2 Pacific Theater by LN but none confirmed.

They are a British company and seem to be doing aircraft that they have easy availability to at this time. The former creators of the DCS WWII Europe 1944 gave us one good thing ... planes that operated in the same theater at reasonably the same time but even those choices don't make everyone happy. Hopefully with time someone will step up with the P-38, F4U, or planes from other countries.

No they don't, but VEAO is just featuring The Fighter Collection aircraft, not any particular theatre. I don't know today but back then when first announced they actually did as 'airshow aircraft pack' without combat in mind even though they could be used of course. Anyway as DCS level aircraft aren't any quick ones being developed probably they've changed, or they'll change their minds about release order and/or making any consistent theatre like the named North Africa map. Whatever, they aren't related to the old died DCSWWII project so they can do what they want and anything will be welcome.

A WWII theatre/map is currently in development by ED. It's the Normandy 1944 map and also includes AI units of this period. Also VEAO has a northern Africa WWII map on it's roadmap. So stuff is coming it just takes time.

How do you know? No word from ED that they are currently working on DCS:WW2 - or did I miss something?

No late word, but they did time ago as it was the old DCSWWII target. Anyway, didn't Wags listed current maps in development in any of the latests videos? I think he named Normadia together with NTTR and Hormuz.

Infos on that were indeed a bit rare in the recent months, but IIRC Wags mentioned it one or two times in his videos. But it has been clearly stated a while ago, that it is in development.

Also, Chizh (one of the ED crew) came up with a request for some infos on WW2 ground stuff in June: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=144346

Cheers for the information, gents. I didn't realise VEAO's projects was independent, and I certainly didn't realise that they were working on an ATO map. A hunting ground for the P40 will be brilliant (and probably consume the rest of my life :joystick:)

Im not really interested in WW2 Planes anymore since IL2 1946 except Me 262, He 162 and Do 335 :smartass:

 

So I didnt go through all the WW2 posts I missed but I didnt think I would miss the Announcement of an Me 262 :doh:

I dont think it will be that long. A good chunk of research has been dont on the 262. I think on that front it would just be filling in the gaps, if the model is still in ED's possession, thats a big chunk of time down...

 

Im pretty Sure ED will make the best they can do to make us all happy.

And if it would take 5 years to make an Alpha I would still say Thank you ED for that Great Work you put down here! Thank you that you take the Time to make a Product as perfect as it could be. Not like other Publishers and Producers nowadays.

 

So at this point a big Thank you ED and the whole team of all of you out there behind the scenes!

I'm seriously hoping that the Ho229 comes together. The prodigal stealth fighter as a DCS bird? Hell yeah!

This was one of the WW2 threads I didnt miss but thank you for reminding me :D

 

But actually im a bit sceptic with regard to the ho 229 because of the Flight model theyre going to make. there isnt really much info about how the real thing flys...

 

But I will see it in future ;)

Ditto, even if its a handful to fly, even if it has design flaws, the opportunity to fly something like this at a DCS level would be incredible, its why I am looking forward to the 262, not for a jet among props, but to have an opportunity to sample the first jet fighter :)

 

I'm interested to see if the 262 has any flaws that translate to DCS. I've read that the turbines were prone to flameout. At any rate it should be an exciting addition, for both the axis and allies!
