A new tweak for Reverb to keep it smooth

I've deliberately set mine to 90Hz, because the 60 Hz flickers too much for me. However, on most days when I boot my machine and get everything up and running (WMR, SteamVR, DCS) The first time I load into DCS the HMD is at 60 HZ (60 FPS in DCS main menu screen). I then have to go into experience settings, select and deselect 90 Hz again, restart everything, reboot machine, and then it's back to 90 Hz. It's a royal pain in the ass, but eventually works at 90. Anyone else experiencing anything like this, and if so, have a solution? Overall am loving the Reverb, but it's definitely more of a pain to get setup then Rift S was.

Yep. 60Hz in WMR is buggy in Windows 10 1903 and 1909v. Its a nice option (for smoothing picture if your CPU/GPD can handle this) but the picture isnt randered the same fort both screens, distorted graphics. The known bug. I hope it will be solved in nearest future.

I have this same issue. Unplug/Replug the Reverb's USB to get it back to 90hz. I read somewhere that disable/re-enable in device manager also works.

SteamVR --> Settings --> Video Tab --> "Advanced Supersampling Filtering"

I think this may have been my problem. Though the WMR cliffhouse looked like shit too with 60hz. I'm using Auto and it works fine.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Auto? Here no auto option for Advanced Supersampling Filtering, only you can turn it on or off, nothing more:

I'm trying a new W10 build through Windows insider and inside the WMR settings there are new and different options of rendering quality and performance. Seems that right now the 60hz/90hz mode only change the refresh rate, so you can be in 60 hz mode with full graphics working like the 90hz mode in previous versions.

Before that I was stuck on the 1809 build because I found problems or visual degradation in the newer version. Now I'm extremely happy with microsoft for listening the community requests.

some time in the first half of this calendar year; and if its your sole PC, I strongly advise against this, unless you fully understand the consequences of it going wrong, which may in the worst case result in an O/S rebuild... and you are happy to do it

When is that build coming out? Or how can you get into the insider program if it takes to long ;)

Didn't know when is the schedule for the next big W10 update.. but you can get the next preview build in the windows insider program tab inside update and security on control panel. There are three options, I think the one for the next build is the first one, can't remember well. Then you can search for Windows update and install the next build.

If something goes wrong, you have the option to return to your actual build with only one click during some days ( two weeks I think )

Tried the update and love it!

Flying in 60Hz as in the same quality in 90Hz

Keep the quality setting on "best visual quality"

If you change it to "Optimise for performance" the objects wont be rendered equally

Flying now on 30FPS "60Hz with motionvector"

Quality can be upped way more this way.

Now lets hope they can make something like ASW 2.0 for less artificats.

Can also confirm this fixed the incorrect render per eye for IL2! :D

Going to try XP11 after dinner

Love this fix!

Why have you changed your setting to "motionvector" instead of leaving it set at "auto"? I thought motionvector was so that you got 45fps? How are you getting 30 fps when motionvector sets it to 45 fps?

He's getting 30fps because his refresh rate is 60Hz. If motionvector is set, you'll always get half of your refresh rate.

It isnt true, if your PC can handle it You will see stable 60 FPS with 60 Hz also with motionreprojection "on".

Motionreprojection works as 60Hz=60FPS and if GPU/CPU lose FPS below this level software cuts FPS to half of this level. The same with 90Hz.

No it really only works that way if you select auto...

Ok, I forget about permanently turning on option. ;>

But who use non auto? Its a case of stutter sometime. Auto works a lot of better in my opinion.

I have had the opposite experience. Mine works better when set to Motion Vector.

Same.

I should be clear, with VR in its current state, there is no right answer, try lots of things, and keep on trying them because the various components (hardware, drivers, Windows, steam and dcs) keep on changing. And the interactions provide different results for different people.

For me, I like a consistent frame rate, and I can tell when it flips at 90hz between unrestricted and forcing 45. Partly this hardware limitations and partly the way my eyes work. And i find the ‘stutter’ jarring...

But, I also haven’t tried auto in an age, not since last decade ;) so maybe it’s improved, I will give it a go tonight when I get home...

Re-tried auto and it is MUCH smoother than i remember, no jerky transitions from 45 FPS and 90, in instant action type missions, so I will definitely give a longer play.

Thanks for the prompt YoYo

I use motion vector because switching it to auto leads to horrible stuttering and ghosting when looking out to the left and right of the cockpit. Having motionvector works great with no stuttering or ghosting when looking out to the left and right.

When you use motion vector you are still getting 90fps , because what motion vector does is fill in the frames in between. So you might think you are getting only 45 fps when in fact you are getting 90 fps because one frame is filled in. Motionvector isn't just like capping your frame rate at 45 fps because it's filling in frames in between.
