Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

I can't get the audio preview to work at all...my voice recording and/or playback isn't functioning properly at all. Setting are below, it recognizes the microphone volume when I talk (the blue bar goes up with my voice), and it shows the volume on the Speakers slider (blue bar also goes up)..but nothing actually comes out of my headphones? The current version isn't set up like the video in the OP so I'm a bit lost...

What the hell am I doing wrong? Is there a simple tutorial somewhere that slowly walks through the steps?

e7ezWXv.png

Edit: I am able to get the overlay to work, following the Troubleshooting server stuff it connects to servers fine and the VR Overlay works perfect...I just can't get my audio from my mic to work. It works perfectly fine on everything else (TeamSpeak, VoiceAttack, etc). I will have some work to do to understand what PTT radios I need to set up, etc, but for now I don't see a point because my voice isn't being captured.

Edit 2: ..and now I am getting a pop-up error, here is my ClientLog, as directed by the error

It looks like the mic and headset are going to different devices that may be what you want or it may not. The sound out is going through your SoundBlaster if you have anything connected to it's output.

Try selecting different output devices from the dropdown menu.https://screenshots.firefoxusercontent.com/images/2b9786a3-ff6c-4f3a-8c77-b85944cb0a0a.pnghttps://screenshots.firefox.com/6pYjTuRlGdq3C6Qz/forums.eagle.ru

Tried em all earlier to no avail. My input (microphone) runs through VoiceMeter to improve quality, I have no issues using this "input" on VA or TS3...I would assume it would be fine for SRS too? Regardless, I tried the other inputs as well...including directly from my Snowball mic...with no luck. With the Virtual Audio Cable 1 selected, SRS definitely recognizes my voice because the "volume meter" in blue moves as I talk.

My headphones are plugged into my SoundBlazer Z...it is my default audio.

Thank you for the suggestion, though

What devices do you both have? that error comes from a third party library that works with all the input devices.

I'd try unplugging and some or testing it just with keyboard binds to see if that helps. Sorry for the trouble but I cannot replicate this at all.

That error is Device in use. Make sure you've not set exclusive use of your sound card or SRS cant use it as well. Its in the sound settings window. Cant post screenshot at the mo but message me if you cant find it.

Also if you can't hear anything with preview audio - you have the wrong output device. Confusingly it may list multiple sound blaster outputs so make sure you try each one with preview audio.

Send a screenshot of the dropdown if you like and also try turning off / disabling unused devices to reduce the list size for ease :)

  • 2 weeks later...

so far, this has neither been Simple, nor a Radio for me...

I've followed the install instructions to a tee... (Using my Rift as both the headset and mic). I can set preview audio and hear my voice when I chat.

I've set my TM Hawg for the PTT, etc. I've tried flying on the SeaQuark Korea server, (via the MiG-15). No joy with communications to other humans.... When I dial in the right frequencies for the tower or intercept, I can hear the A/I voices just fine. It's just that I can't hear any humans on the other preset frequencies...

I know how to manage the radio & frequencies within the A/C. No issues there.

I was hoping this being "simple", it would... but so far, it's been a struggle... I'll continue to search the thread. As in the past, it'll probably be some dumbass, simple thingy that I failed on...

Sounds like you just need someone on TS to test it and get things going. It's probably just a little problem, or maybe people just aren't transmitting?

In any case, tomorrow I should be off squadron training around 22:30Z (that's 22:30Z on Monday, the 20th), that's probably something like 4:30pm your time. Just shoot me a PM if that's okay for you (or some other time) and we can see if we can't solve the issue.

I've been around when Aries was still in use and I occasionally use UniversRadio nowadays, and while all of them have their pros and cons, I still think SRS is by far the most simple to run and use and I prefer it whenever I have the choice. :)

Huh, the fact that you don't hear anyone doesn't mean that it doesn't work.

You can see the radio freq displayed correctly on the overlay ?

I've been flying on SQ's server for more than a month, and on the RED side, except for two dedicated russians and when there is an event, I haven't seen anyone else use it. I guess RED side is too caveman :D.

If you fly the saber on Blue, you have got a better chance to meet someone.

If you can hear yourself on the preview and when you connect you can see how many are connected on the bottom of the GUI, than all is working :)

Good news, the mixing / distortion issue should be pretty much solved in the next release.

Server owners will have to update before clients can connect and switch on an extra TCP port in the firewall as audio is now over TCP instead of UDP.

Thanks to all for helping me test!

Aiming for weekend release or earlier time dependant :)

Great news! Any possible issues w.r.t. timings, network congestion, usage and similar? I'm asking since UDP is usually the go-to protocol for time sensitive data, with TCP having quite an annoying overhead.
Sure! Entirely possible :)

But with the size and amount of data transferred and the fact most people have a stable connection with plenty of bandwidth we should be fine. Packets are around 100 bytes (!) for 80 milli seconds of audio (depending on audio, silence is smaller). Most transmissions are short and there aren't that many simultaneous transmissions as well.

The reason I've not switched to TCP until now was my worry over those issues but seems fine from testing. I would like to go back to UDP but I still need to find the real reason for the issue, either jitter buffer or packet drop or reordering issue. Still never managed to reproduce locally, with two different internet connections so I don't think it's just one thing.

If this works and is stable I'll finish off a bunch of features and guaranteed delivery of TCP takes away many headaches and makes some features much easier to do.

The TCP connection is a long lived one to help with latency i.e no teardown and setup and nagles is off so packets go when I ask them too.

Have been having problems geting SR to work for first time. I had 1.2.9.2 installed and never had it working I kept geting the "Initializing Audio Input Error"

Than I installed the 1.3.4 version and it worked fine Once, I tried to start it up again a few hours later and am now getting the same error.

Please post the error log as a post attachment as the error window says. :)

The clientlog.txt is in the folder where you ran the radio from.

Does the folder where you run SRS from contain opus.dll or have you accidentally dragged the program out of where it was installed somewhere else?

Good news, the mixing / distortion issue should be pretty much solved in the next release.

Server owners will have to update before clients can connect and switch on an extra TCP port in the firewall as audio is now over TCP instead of UDP.

Thanks to all for helping me test!

Aiming for weekend release or earlier time dependant :)

I carefully cleaned everything out and did a full reinstall of 1.3.3 from scratch ensuring all the files were in the right place. It worked great for few hours last night and is working this morning.

I think the issue was that I may have had two copies of it somehow.

Thank You for this fantastic addition.

Thank you, I will check this in the coming days...I believe this link explains what you are referencing: https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/211166003-How-to-Disable-Exclusive-Mode-in-Windows-Sound-Preferences

Changed that setting and still no audio is output. The "volume bars" move when I talk in to the mic, but nothing comes out of my headphones.

Additionally, I've tried every single output from the drop down menu.

Do you have a Discord I can connect to talk through what I might be doing wrong still?

Appreciate the help earlier, sorry I had to run on the spot - had some people coming over that were knocking at my front door downstairs.

I'll try all the things you recommended in the next couple of days and I'll follow back up with you in your Discord.
