If I fly without steam (DCS standalone)?

do I need Steam VR?

OK, waiting for someone to come into the conversation. Sorry if this has been asked over and over again guys.

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

You may not need to install steam application but definitely would need the steamVR application.

Steamvr applications is what interfaces your headset and dcs world.

Ok, good to know.

I will start to look into the steam VR application and whether I can install it without steam.

DCS standalone needs SteamVR installed (and WMR) to run but it won't show, DCS suppresses the SteamVR popup window (lately), which is a bore, but perhaps shows a tad faster coding.

WMR is just a generic programme that will install when installing the HP reverb I guess.

There is 'Mixed Reality Portal' that auto installs by Windows when a WMR is detected and has the VR 'mirror' window and is for all WMR software,

but you also need to find and install 'Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR' on Steam, so your Reverb can launch SteamVR games with 'openVR' emulation, not so much Oculus, that needs the same for Steam Vive protocol.

Cool... cut and pasted into word.

So steamVR with openVR is the VR version of openGL software for standard graphics cards and standard monitors?

Vulkan or Vulcan comes to mind for some reason.... something I read about recently... is this something to do with it or am I in the wrong ball park?

Yea this is why I always wear my contacts in vr. People think they don't need to use their glasses because it's up close but this isn't the case. I just wish I didn't have to spend an additional $80 for snap on lenses for each headset.

Not sure but it's as if you are wearing your glasses. It really depends how the lenses are built to fit the reverb.

Nope it's only if you normally wear glasses or contacts to correct your vision.

in the sense that my corrected vison has more clarity, across the field of view then yes... in the absolute sense of increasing the area where my eyes must focus (e.g. minimising head turns) not so much

You run Steem DCS or standalone?

My standalone won't let the SteamVR popup.

Your 'Steam VR with 200% SS' that is in SteamVR 'app' section and is named "RUN" or "DCS"?

I have the Standalone running with Steam VR. In the SteamVR Options you can Choose a custom Super Sampling.

How do you get DCS with only WMR Running?

very simple you don't. DCS doesn't run on WMR natively.

You need SteamVR for WMR or soemthing like that to run DCS.

There's an option somewhere - I forgot where - 'load SteamVR with program start'

It appears that should be off to set App SS

NOPE

just checked my 'load SteamVR with program start' is OFF, my SteamVR popup does not show

edit: start WMR for Steam from within steam brought up the SteamVR popup, and then start DCS and then one can set SS in SteamVR 'APP settings' under 'DCS'

So many hours of use down now and I am very happy with the Reverb, for me it was a great choice.

Funny story. I was flying along on one of our squad nights and all was going well, then I started to have some bad tracking issues, gradually getting worse. When it became unplayable I took the headset off to discover while I was deeply immersed in the VR world of DCS it had turned to night and I forgot to put the lights on in my room! :megalol:

Pro tip: Inside out tracking doesn't work very well in the dark. :D

Mine is one of the new batch of units, VR1000.
