Missions for the P-51?

STP Dragon

Recommended Posts

Hi ED,

what missions are planed for the P-51?

What's the story? Is there a campaign?

What enemies will the P-51 have to defeat?

I don't think that it can do something against modern SAM-sides like Tunguska, OSA, Patriot....

Two mp missions comes to mind .. dogfights.

p-51 vs p-51

P-51 vs A-10C (guns only)

But in the Korean War the P-51 became a ground attacker just like the A-10C. So in that era there where only AAA airdefense and trucks /tanks ...So nice ground attacks where A-10C take out SAMs and P-51 go for the troops .... okay not very realistic but euh KA-50 with USA Marines colors arnt really realistic either .

Low level convoy search and destroy with a bit of AAA for threats.

It would be easy to create these - just triggers generating units moving around that you need to find and kill.

Hm.... to keep the realism you can't use the normal DCS-units expect the Zu-23 (maybe Shilka) and the T-55. Bouth are build in the 1950-1960 and used in the Korean war.

You can dodge Igla (if you see them), Shilka, AAA generally.

P-51 can carry rockets, bombs and all counted together, throws a lot of rounds at a target.

You should be able to dream up some coin work, or fake some WWII type scenarios.

Cheers.

Igla? In close combat? Without Flares?

Never!

To beat a Igla you have 2 ways:

1st: Stay out of range and kill them. Therefore you need a very good eye or a TGP.

2nd: Get in range, good luck and many Flares.

Thats a "fault" of the mission creator. Take a Turkish Ka-50 ( Ka-50-1 "Erdogan" ;)) and then its ....almost... realistic.

You would not have Iglas in the mission scenario in any event. Why even contemplate it?

Do you know the missions which will be delivered with the P-51 modul?

That's my question. What's the szenario? What's the story? What enemies?

I'm of the opinion that this aircraft is more akin to a FSX addon with the added benefit of being put in a sim designed around combat and not civilian flight. In other words, its meant to be used for non-combat purposes, yet has the capability to be used in combat.

That said, at this stage it is a moot point as it is not known whether other era assets will be provided with the sim to have combat "make sense".

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Why not?

If it can fly alongside an A-10C or Ka-50 in a combat enviornment in a mission, why not iglas?

Mustang retired from USAF in 1978.......Igla-1 introduced in 1981.

Still curious?

I am of course discounting the Mustangs retired from active service in the Dominican Republic in 1984

In my point of view it "makes no sense" to release a aircraft of the Digital-COMBAT-Simulator without combat missions. ;)

So some combat missions have to be released with the modul and my question to ED was: What szenario, what story, what enemies?

You are a mission-builder and a respected one at that. Why don't you tell us?

That's the point - I'm sure that with intelligent discussions and the resources we currently have (In-SIM units, AAA, Artillery 'Flak' Guns et al) mission-builders can come up with plausible scenarios. Maybe even get the Modding Community involved to 'model-swap' or the like to add units not yet available. Possibilities are endless.

It should be a case of 'Let's see what we can do with what we've got, identify possible shortcomings, address those shortcomings to ED and see if we can get them rectified/included in the release' as opposed to the argument of 'Well OMFGBMWASPWTF that will never work! A Mustang in the Caucasus........Pffttttttttt.....', not for a second forgetting Nevada.

Remember, it's early days yet :)

Yes your right Viper,

Don't you think that ED have to know yet what szenario they want to deliver?

They probably do already have a structure/plan/storyboard in mind.

There are however more important things to attend to at present before mission-building, mission-testing and the like can commence. Would make no sense to release information now, only to have to amend said information closer to the time due to changes to whatever and then have to deal with the backlash of 'But you Said.......'

And I'll repeat it again: Intelligent and Constructive discussion re possible scenarios on these boards might very well facilitate streamlining any plans already being made by ED in that department.

The most interesting part in upcoming missions (historical realistic or unrealistic) will be to see how well everyone has done the home-work .

What will be most challenging for many here is to get exactly where they have to and also in the right time-frame.

And this only by using a compass and the clock.

Yes, no GPS map supported in the Cockpit. :D

No Waypoints, no markings on targets on a map...

Trucks, maybe some zu-23, maybe some T-55. :)

IMO adding this plane to your current missions does not make any sense.

That's exactly what I'm looking forward to -

As example: you have take out a little watch-tower -so a supply convoy can pass a region without getting under fire.

And the only thing you know is that in 1mile radius somewhere near a specific village.
