Edit: Just realized that you probably meant escorting ships, rather than ground units ... the best way to do it is using a Moose script created by FunkyFranky ... its easy to use and you dont need programming knowledge:

Hello,

 

Scripting is a complex subject, I cant possibly answer how to use on a single post .. the script cames with a sample mission, load it on the Mission Editor and examine its triggers to see how it is supposed to work.
