Chops
Does anyone know why there has been such a substantial increase in cost for the GTX 1080 Ti? At the end of December the cost was around $760 u.s. and is now up to around $1,400 u.s.

dburne
Can you please explain this? I have no idea what you are talking about. I don't quite understand it either, except that it is some type of crypto currency and these so called data miners are going crazy for it. Many running several high end GPU's just to "mine" for it. Thus creating an increased demand for the video cards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|

BitMaster
best case 10 euro per day, so 80 days to pay off the cost of the card ? Then you have to figure in cost of PC and electricity costs per day as well ? my cpu mines enough to pay the electricity, roughly 0,90-1,30€/day. My card uses about 160-250w, depending on algorhythm and PowerTarget/Temp setting. My PC runs 24/7 anyway, for the past 2 decades, say 200w in average for the GPU + 50w for the CPU = 250w x 24 = 6kWh * 0,30€ = 1,80€ electricity/day the pc was there before mining and would also be here if there was no such thing like mining, I dont need to calculate the cost for it. Given that we germans pay the highest electricity price compared to other western nations, it is no wonder that mining is booming where elec is cheap. but it even pays well if you pay 30€cent/kWh yeah, the card was 929,-€, roughly 3 months and it paid itself, the cpu pays the utilities. it's roughly 0,001 BTC/day average gain, also some ETH...its wierd, its fun, its paying to Paypal and I love it ;) my pal just got another 1080ti solely for mining, plus a 1kWh PSU....it really pays well, still. hansangb
Can you please explain this? I have no idea what you are talking about. I'll elaborate a bit more. There are multiple crypto currencies in play right now. One way to get them is to mine for it using your graphics card to do computation. Some functions are done faster in GPU (graphics cards) than CPU. So miners, as these cryto-currency folks are called, have caused a shortage or graphics cards. So people started selling them at a higher price....because they can as Johny/DBurne(?) stated. But if you go to the vendors site, you'll see that it hasn't gone up *that* much. The other factor is shortage of memory globally. But that's another factor. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

Pilotasso
It's the perfect Storm. AMD only has one interesting card to compete with NVIDIA the VEGA 56 and they are in short supply. The custom models are nowhere to be seen. There has beem so MUCH delay from the partners, and most of that is partly due to AMD and their plan to stick with HBM2. Therefore, everytime miner business surges NVIDIA charges whatever it wants. Glad I bought my 1080Ti back in may. BeastyBaiter
Prices on GPU's will probably drop in a couple weeks. The price of all the crypto currencies has tanked hard, so I doubt many will be clamoring for new mining rigs for the next couple of months. It's still profitable to mine, but a lot scarier for people expanding or just starting.
