It is a resolution multiplier. 1080p X 2 = 2160 (4k).

Resolution multiplier?

Could you be so kind to describe a little more what is the effect of that?

I have a 1920x1080 screen. Will i benefit from this option in some way?

SSAA ?

Hey gang,

So at risk of being a dumb question - what is this SSAA setting in the graphics menu now?

Granted have had a bit of a little break for a while but not sure I remember this setting?

Today is first time I have really noticed it when I loaded up the Persian Gulf Map.

It has two options, 1.5 and 2.

Supersampling (SSAA) is a powerful, but very demanding antialiasing method

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supersampling

SSAA is the more performance demanding mode of antialiasing than MSAA

I hope in future patches they do not erase the MSAA method fully, not everyone has the money to buy a NASA like computer ...

It's completely unsuable in VR (as in: it doesn't work): the way things are rendered defy description: you need to see it for yourself.

I can only describe it as a 2D film wrapped around a sphere that's on top of your nose...

SSAA will likely be a decent option for anybody still using a 1080P monitor using anything more powerful than a GTX 980. For those of us already running 21:9 or 4k setups you probably don't want to turn this on.

For the guy who said SSAA made his system run better - I'd guess your CPU clockspeeds were a bottleneck for your GPU, and your GPU is taking more of the workload running at a higher resolution, which ultimately should result in a smoother picture.

So can we use SSAA instead of pixel density for VR?

Nope.

Just gave it a try, set PD on 0 and SSAA on 1.5.

Plane was tiny! Felt like I was looking at a small image of plane on monitor <shudder> lol. Plus everything very weird looking.

This setting definitely not for VR.

Okay, thanks for the heads up, mate. I'll try it out in VR but won't expect much if anything then.

MSAA in DCS DS always has problem. No matter your GPU or CPU spec.

And i doubt what cpu is strong enough boost GPU 100% at all time 1080p.Supersamping 1.5 acturlly works pretty well by far.

Supersampling is an older anti-aliasing filter that requires an enormous computational power. What supersampling does is render the area of interest at an higher resolution, then use the extra pixels to perform certain calculations and finally downsample to return to the original resolution. It splits an extra pixel below pixels (as you wrote in DCS we have 1.5x and 2x), so that the single pixel may appear more "homogeneous". All of this work translates into a huge demand in terms of graphics memory and bandwidth.

After a quick first trial in Caucasus I prefer to turn OFF this option but I have not a magnificent rig.

Same for me.

Is much much much better filter than MSAA but the perfomance hit is noticeable for me and my 1060.

Thanks all for your kind replies.

SSAA (Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing), is not meant to be used in VR.

SSAA is the Same as Pixel Density. 1.5x = PD 1.5, 2.0x = Pixel Density 2.0

Running Pixel Density 2.0 and SSAA at 2.0x = Pixel Density 4.0

But, since SSAA is applied via super sampling image then using VPU to downsize to monitor resolution, it does not work w/ VR Devices, as it renders 2x as Large in 2x Mode, and bypasses the VPU to go directly to the VR Compositor.

Changing my settings from MSAA x4 to OFF and SSAA to 1.5 gave me a performance boost at about 10 - 15 fps. Non-VR of course.

SSAA != 4x, is shit.

SSAA 2x:

SSAA 2x + MSAA 4x = shit + low fps.

MSAA 8x = medium quality + good fps.

MSAA 16x (DCS 1.5) = good quality + good fps.

ED return MSAA 8x!!!
