the vehicle AI is so bad...

in my playthrough of baltic_dragon's campaign for a-10c, a convoy couldnt even drive on a road thats just straight line. constantly going 45 degrees off it for no reason and getting stuck in streetlamps.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X

GPU: AMD RX 580

Well, I was up to make a mission. Then I fist noticed that a tank would not move if placed in the forest to begin. So I wondered what happened... I then put them on the road.

 

I mean. When on a videogame the AI can't do the most basic things without problems, then it is that there is a huge problem in terms of development. DCS is 20 years old now... 20 years. Still it behaves like a pure alpha product which would be developed for 6 months...

I just tried that exact section of road with a group of M1A2s and then with Bradely's, they manage to navigate the road just fine, although they did get spaced out some.

 

Only when I gave them a path with CA did they start to have issues, can someone confirm this is the issue? It would be helpful for the OP to include his mission and track, otherwise, I am just guessing what is going on.

Ill try to disable CA module on my end, but to be honest, I don't know how to order units using CA on the map ... :( So this might not be the problem.

 

Including a track is - simply said - not always possible.

I know you are asking this 1000 times a day ... :D, but it is a real pain in the ass sometimes to deliver the files.

Mostly because they are simply overwritten (or have 50 MBs or more) until somebody reaches the point where he decides to spend time for reporting (mostly obvious) bugs.

Not to be meant offensive (never I would), just saying. :mad:

 

So coming back to the story: What is your guess?

This guess might help us to find out what is causing the problems (because we can do quick checks on our computers and report back the experiences based on your guess).

The units should follow the street "on road", but just drive somewhere else (woods, houses, ...).

For me it seems they can't look "far enough to the sides" to see the next road sections coming ...

 

My experiences are mostly in Caucasus & PG, where curves, and cross-overs are causing the hardest troubles for AI ground vehicles.

BETA, 2.5.6.45915 (and the last 3 to 5 versions before).

NineLine - I just tried a bit, and I think it's on actual DCS iteration much less dramatic than a month ago, maybe something already changed.

 

Before, many unitTypes were crazy on road (except APC and maybe tanks…) going offroad at any intersection, avoiding bridge to rivercross instead, going slalom anytime there were poles or trees aside road, or going inside buildings. Consistently.

 

Now it seems much better, still incriminated units (mostly : trucks, jeeps, mobile sams) go offroad to avoid a pole sometimes.
