I'd say anything with gync and at least 2k. The Asus ROG P27WQHD monitors are good. The 1ms TN panel variant and the 4ms IPS monitor. Both are overclocked refresh rates of 144hz and 165hz. Just make sure you have enough under the hood to reach 60+ frames to make the most of the monitors features.

There is always 4k, but you'll be paying an arm and a leg for anything with gsync and refresh rate over 120hz; plus, not sure the hardware exists yet to get 120+ frames at 4k with all the bells and whistles running in DCS.

Ryzen9 5800X3D, Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite, 32Gb Gskill Trident DDR4 3600 CL16, Samsung 990 Pr0 1Tb Nvme Gen4, Evo860 1Tb 2.5 SSD and Team 1Tb 2.5 SSD, MSI Suprim X RTX4090 , Corsair h115i Platinum AIO, NZXT H710i case, Seasonic Focus 850W psu, Gigabyte Aorus AD27QHD Gsync 1ms IPS 2k monitor 144Mhz, Track ir4, VKB Gunfighter Ultimate w/extension, Virpil T50 CM3 Throttle, Saitek terrible pedals, RiftS

I've got the older ASUS 1440P 1ms with Gsync, it a great sweet spot for eye candy and great performance and as DocSigma said, you need at least a 1070 and up to get the most from these monitors. If I was to go 4K it would need to be one of these. NVIDIA BFGD

Tho, I'm more into VR now and waiting to see the next gen VR, this is the future of all sims, we just need a little better Res.

WQHD Gsync 144Hz 1ms = hard to beat

4k is possible, but you have to dial back many settings. With WQHD + 1080ti you can go All-In and enjoy.

Hello BitMaster,

Thanks for the information. How far away can you spot the enemy aircraft with the 1440 resolution?

I play with a AW3418DW, really nice monitor.

Hello StandingCow,

This is the same monitor that I have been looking at. Can you tell me how you like it and how far away you can see a enemy aircraft?

I have the same 1440P monitor and took these to show the guy's having trouble spotting, most with small 4K screens have trouble, see the thread here. It also depends on where they are when looking.

I could see these guy's (I knew they were there tho) at 15 miles (Nice Background too).

These are reduced down in Photoshop, so in game is better.

IPS panels offer better visuals, colors, and off center viewing angles; however, IPS monitors do come with a cost to response time: 4ms for IPS as opposed to 1ms for TN. I'd say that if you're goal is the best possible visual experience then go with the IPS for slightly better visuals and a 3ms higher response time. If performance matters then go with the TN panel. The real question is that is the discernible difference - if any - large enough to warrant the increased price tag of the IPS; also, I think any differences would likely make themselves known when playing faster paced games, such as FPS's, etc... Whatever you decide, don't get one without Gsync. I think, just based on testimony from many people on these forums, Gsync is a must.

Went for a cheap 32" AMVA screen recently. Response time is on the slow side, probably even slower than my previous IPS one, but since I don't play shooters it doesn't matter. For my flight and racing sims it's good enough. Size does make a difference, though :D, given the fact that with extended, chair mounted joystick I have to sit further from the desk than I used to in the old days.

I am sorry I cannot help you in your particular case.

I can only say that spotting targets is actually an issue on 2K and 4K monitors.

Also it is not easy nowadays to find the right monitor for our taste and need, especially that most of the time you cannot see the monitor operating before buying it  So it's somewhat trial and error despite the reviews on the internet.

I have the older ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC the last few years and I'm more than happy with it. She is one fast monitor. You can see some screen shots one page back.

Not sure the finish on your monitor, the one I have is very matte finish. Not at home right now, but I have lowered the gamma and raised up the digital vibrance a touch, using the Nvidia color settings. It's a balance here with eye candy and performance and I can have everything maxed out using this screen and performance is still top notch.

Interesting review for your monitor.....

"Bottom line is, the colour fidelity of the Asus PG27VQ is not good enough. From a top of the line monitor, we expect (much) more, just like what Asus has showed us they can do with the PG278Q three years ago." Read it here

I just returned an Asus vg278qr. The spec had it all on the paper: G-sync, 144hz, solid build, etc...

However the image was very aggressive for the eyes and with very poor contrast ratio.

The black colours weren't enough black, and the rest of the image didn't look right despite of the nice outside finish. The cockpits in DCS looked simple and without the realistic nuance set in the graphics of this sim.

Browsing on windows was a pain for the eyes, specially on navigators... Not sure it's down to the model or TN base. But I'm definitely more careful when choosing the next one.

Now I'm aiming for something more rich in colors and contrast... I'm not convinced that high FPS is important for DCS.
