While the targeting pod on modern aircraft are usually used to employ smart munitions like Laser Guided Bombs (LGBs) or guided missiles like the AGM-65 Maverick, it can also be used to employ and accurately deliver "Dumb" munitions like unguided rockets and Mk 80 series of weapons.

The Hughes Angle Rate Bombing System (ARBS) that is installed in the nose of the AV-8B NA Harrier II in DCS World is a fantastic piece of equipment and in its time was a major leap forward in the accuracy of dropping unguided weapons on the A-4M Skyhawk and AV-8B Harrier II.

However, in 2018 the ARBS is showing its age with a limited zoom function and a very narrow FOV. The Lightening targeting pod or TPOD is able to perform all of the duties of the ARBS while being able to zoom in and get a clearer picture of the target as well as being able to slew the TGP while flying perpendicular to, away from or straight at a potential target, from longer ranges.
