Threads older then 24 hours always marked as read

Recommended Posts

Since i time now i experience a problem when visiting the forum.

Threads older then 24 hours (sometimes 48 hours) are always marked as read even if i didn't visit the forum for a couple of days.

Looked through the settings but i can't seem to find one where i can set/change such an option (it's not the thread display cut off setting because that's somehting else.

Anybody else having the same experience or a clue what i can do about it?

Browser: Firefox 46.0.1 (but it has done this with previous versions also the last couple of months).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Another thing is/was that in the past i would close the forum, close my browser and then when i would come back later, all posts that where unread before would be marked read and only new posts since my last visit would be marked as unread. This doesn't happen anymore either, the older ones stay unread until 24h is passed (unless i use the mark forums as read option).

Thanks but...

If you read my first post you'll notice that that isn't the solution, i played around with it already (it's currently set to show from the last month, it used ot be on default). Nor are any cookies or leftover cookiecrumbles so...

I'll set it back to default but i already did that before with no luck.

Tried from work (also with FireFox but an older version), same thing.

I'll switch browsers to pinpoint the problem.

Ran a little test with 2 other browsers (IE and Vivaldi), same problem. Every post older then 24 hours is considered read. Since it happens on various browsers, browsers are not the problem but the problem must be lying somewhere in my profile...

I am using chrome with no issues.

I'm on Chrome now, still the same problem. Everything posted older then 24 hours is considered read.

On a sidenote, in the past (even years back), every post i didn't read after my visit was considered read when i re-visited later. This now doesn't happen either. If i re-visit, post i didn't read yet are still not read as long as the 24 hour mark hasn't been passed.

Lange did you solve this problem. I have it too. I remember that the behavior of the forum on this matter changed quite a long time ago (maybe about 1 year ago). Before that everything posted after my previous visit was shown unread which was very good. Now it is difficult to follow the forums if I have a longer than two days since my last visit.

No i didn't.

The behaviour is still the same.

I even tried a fully new browser once more + between my original post and now i re-installed Windows (fresh 10 instead of of a hybrid 8.1 with 10 on top).

Just like you i can't follow the forum any more if posts are older then 2 days. They all show up as read.

Another thing that doesn't work anymore like before is the "all read" setup.

Previously when i quit te forum and would come back a few minutes later or if i wandered to long on one topic, all other topics where considered read.

This is not the case any more, every post not visited stays unread until that 2 days periode has passed, then all become read.

Too bad. I was hoping a way to fix it. Now I think the question is how does the forum work for others? Are our expectations too high ;)? Well, shouldn't be as the forum used to work like forums usually do.

Can any of the moderators or admins shed a little light what has happened and how to fix this?
