mojomonkey
I could find a few references to this issue but not a bug report post, so here it is. Flying from a fixed runway on Nevada, unless the AI is light enough to take off almost vertically, the nozzle use causes them to be unable to take off, and after initially accelerating, they end up sat firm on the runway, with the engines on maximum and nozzles back. By reducing significantly the takeoff weight, the problem is fixed, however this leaves AI harriers unable to take off with effective stores. I've been able to replicate in different missions and with different AI competency levels.
Rowan
Same problem, I use a tanker and send them to it when they are airborne, but they suck at it, they are worse at it than than I am. The DCS AI generally seems to be a bit screwed in some areas right now.
Supmua
Same problem in MP game. AI wingman would taxi to but then stop the middle of the runway. PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. enigma6584
Been working on a mission in the editor. Last night I did a full test on the mission from a cold start. Started up Harrier, taxied to runway, wing-man followed. I took off, wing-man moved to center of runway and sat there with his nozzles pointed down. We had one of the "Ground Attack" weapons configurations hanging on the aircraft, mostly m-83 dumb bombs. Definitely too heavy to attempt a vertical take-off which is why I did a regular rolling take-off expecting my AI wing-man to do the same. He couldn't figure out that he needed to do a rolling take-off. Now I redid the test of my mission where I had my flight start at take-off from the runway and wing-man followed me up into the sky no problems. I'm using the DCS World 2.5.1 public version, not the beta.
A Hamburgler
Any new on this. I feel like rolling takeoffs for ai is a big deal.
Eagle7907
Last I saw, the AI behavior is something that ED needs to fix, not RAZBAM. As far as I know, RAZBAM has made ED fully aware of the issue. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro Win 10, AMD FX9590/water cooled, 32GB RAM, 250GB SSD system, 1TB SSD (DCS installed), 2TB HD, Warthog HOTAS, MFG rudders, Track IR 5, LG Ultrawide, Logitech Speakers w/sub, Fans, Case, cell phone, wallet, keys.....printer
mojomonkey
I think it would be good to get an update - the AI is obviously smart enough to use nozzles to support, which I'd be surprised if it was an ED ask. At the moment, this doesn't feature on the list of known issues?
uscstaylor
This is huge for guys like us that love to use AI in missions. I hope ED fixes this issue very soon.
KPenn5
I don’t fly MP. I enjoy making my own missions from a cold start, but taking on an enemy airfield with no wingmen sucks. I’ve just been starting mid air, which kills some of the fun for me
Svend_Dellepude
Minimize weight by bringing empty droptanks and lower internal fuel, and AI will do a vertical takeoff just fine. Then go find yourself a tanker and you're good to go. So far it's the only way to get them off the ground. Thanks, I am aware of the work-around, but it's far from ideal - especially when taking off with mission loadouts. Hence the thread.
