Is this thread even still relevant? It is more than 6 years old and I bet, many votes are obsolete by now due to people installed new Windows versions or just bought new rigs.

Can't we just get rid of this thread?

+1.

It was only relevant during the Vista/Win7/coming Win10 days. I don't think it really served any real purpose other than passing interest. ED were only ever going to move forwards with new versions of windows in mind whilst trying to maintain compatibility with older versions but they will and must fade away.

Interesting but no more than that and I think I'll unsubscribe now.

Still running Win7 64Bit, and have no intention of switching to 10 anytime soon. So far I've seen a lot of people have trouble with it, I don't like Microsoft's direction they are going with the OS compared to 7, and DX12 is not worth it. Not really.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

If you have a AMD cards DX12 runs better with Vulkan. better fps with those cards using DX 12. Plus eventually, DX13 will be a thing and so forth. DX11 will eventually be the nex dx9. Obsolete, and not work well with newer cards.

Similarly win 7 will eventually fade into obscurity as did even the popular Windows XP. IF this is MS direction with windows 10, i doubt itl change with a potential Win 11. That being said. I was not Hesiitant to switch to Windows 10. i came from a Windows 8 Laptop and Desktop, so upgrading those to WIN 10 to get a proper desktop OS and not something that was overly hard trying to be a Tablet OS ( win 8 ), i very much welcomed the changes of WIndows 10. That alone was enough for me to hop over. The other stuff like DX12 is a bonus.

Even i had some friends who were hesitant to upgrade to windows 10, but Eventually they they came to realize it was just because they were too used to 7. Liked 10 and notice that even without SSD still boots up faster than windows 7. Even WIn 7 with SSD i noticed has slower boot up times than both windows 8 & 10.

DX12 imo is being underplayed by some. Plus with windows 10 you have bonus of Having access to MS store. with MS new marketing strategy, they no longer aim at COnsole XBOX exclusives, But MS Exclusives. SO a game like Quantum Break that was intially going to be COnsole game, was made available to Win 10 owners. So if there are ny console games you are interested, because of this marketing strategy you can save yourself from buying a Xbox.

Now with Intel Kaby Lake and AMD Ryzen processors MS has blocked updates to those PCs with Windoze 7. I just upgraded my rig to an i7-7700K and had to go to Windoze 10 64. grrrr. But it seems fine and I don't have issues

I'm in no hurry for Win10 and definitely cannot afford a new Mobo, Chip, SSD and Video Card just to to be able to fly DCS 2.

I guess I got 4 fairly decent years out of DCS for all my investment (albeit an expensive hobby at this rate). But I think I'll just retire and go fishing. I can't afford to keep up with the changes.

Thanks for the replies.
