[RESOLVED]Flak not firing in multiplayer - again

Guys, there's an old flak script by 9L and others still available AFAIK. It still seems to work in v2.5.6 and thus comes in handy for folks wanting to get some pseudo-flak going. No link though, sorry.

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Pretty sure Phil knows of it already but https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/683612/

The explosion that existed in DCS when I wrote this has changed in the last year or so and the flak bursts no longer look as good as before. I kind of hope that eventually ED will add a trigger action to allow a heavy calibre flak zone to be portrayed without having to actually have units for it in mission - similar to the artillery action that was introduced in recent times. Particularly for B17 raids and their defence/interception the action happens at 15000 ft so having to add sufficient 88s to create the flak defence is an overhead that shouldn't really be needed as the guns themselves are likely never to be seen by players.

If its worth anything, im trying to produce a template for all the flak units in the Normandy area in june 1944. It will be a fairly simple idea to lay the template down on any scenario, just delete out the units that you dont need. So laying units hopefully wont be a problem much longer.

The flak firing, well thats disappointing. I was hoping to test the sucker. :(

Reported,

Not sure what has happened here, it is working internally but not in open beta. Only flak 38

We do have a bug where muzzle flashes can not be seen in cockpit view from medium and high altitudes and I thought it would be that, but wasnt.

bug reported

thanks

note: I have merged the other post, only need it reported in one place, it is easier to keep track of then.

Im using batteries of one Kodo, four Flak 36, some Flak 38 and Vierlings. Ran it online on a dedicated server last night and Flak fired fine. AAA too (not sure if both types fired).

I am switching the groups AI ON/OFF depending on activity in their given zone. Dont know if that makes a difference.

Just to follow up on this,

During my investigation it seems the FLAK are firing, they do take some time to get a good track on target, better at medium to long range.

Please bare in mind we have a bug where you will not so muzzle flash in F1 view from the guns, you will see flak splashes however.

If you have tracks showing examples of them not firing please attach them here I will add them to my report.

thank you

Are you saying that Flak38 batteries do work?

Thanks

Yes FLAK 38 are firing

please ensure if you are using dedicated servers they have been updated.

Also re-save any older mission in the editor

thanks

Did more testing today with my dedicated server/PC updated to latest open beta patch.

AAA Units:

Flak-Vierling 38

8.8cm Flak 18

Bofors 40mm

Slow aircraft (Huey UH-1, immortal)

Yes they are firing and yes it is only after a long delay.

Fast Aircraft (Sabre F-86F, mortal) orbiting above target at 7000 (AGL)

One or two AAA emplacements (out of 120, started the test with 12 and bumped it up) start to fire on the Sabre. Not many.

Watching the AAA units, they seem unaware of air targets for the most part. Only if the slow aircraft is in their forward view for more than 6-10 seconds do they notice and rotate to fire.

So by the time the AAA starts firing your planes are already out of the area. Higher is better as far as having AAA fire near your plane. I have all AAA units facing the line of ingress as well.

To sum up, the AAA is firing, but they are really slow to acquire the target. The mortal F-86F Sabre was never hit by flack.

I will enquire why there seems to be a longer delay now, and let you all know what I find

Good to hear, we were scratching our heads here, as we have made no changes.

But I have tested in open beta single player and online with no issues now.

thanks

What do you mean?

How many guns do you think it should take to achieve what?

It certainly gives your position away, there's no doubt about that.

And the low level small caliber stuff is horrifically dangerous if you get too close.

I mean, is there any splash or shrapnel damage?
