MSAA and SSAA

Recommended Posts

Trying to set up the best setting for my specs and I notice that both antialiasing kill my fps. Saw a few video about chancing the antialiasing from nvidia panel but when I put "override any application setting" it doesnt change anything, dcs will always pick up from in game settings.

Can someone explain me the diff between em and how, if possible,do I fix this problem?

Not sure there is a fix...my understanding (and experience ) is that nvidea aa is ineffective , and DCS msaa is costly . Use DCS , and at your minimum acceptable levels .

I run 4x MSAA myself . Strictly a personal preference that still allows me to avg 50-60 fps +-15 depending on update . Perhaps if the OP could post his specs & settings someone could help him ?

I run 2-4x MSAA at 3440x1440, max settings and get 80-100fps. Based on your specs, you can't run MSAA. Don't even bother. Other stuff should be low to medium.

Holy crap ! Running MP too ? On 8gb ? You don't have a kilobyte to allocate to aa

Forcing AA x 2 or 4 or 16 , don't work in Nvidia control panel I've tried all weekend . The only way to get AA is in game it's self. . Go MSAA X 2 and AA x 4 drop to medium settings low pre radius trees grass right down turn shadows off . You got to play around with your settings .

It isn't a problem, and as such, you can't 'fix' it.

More expensive computer.

even with best computer out there you cant run both MSAA and SSAA, run one or the other.

You don't need to.

SSAA works/looks better than MSAA, so it uses more graphics card power than MSAA, and gives lower framerates. Running both at the same time is totally unnecessary..

Super Sample AA is great if you have a better graphics card than your monitor. Super sampling has always been the “ideal” form of antialiasing except for its huge performance hit, generating 2-4x as many pixels. That’s why Multi Sample AA was created. Now there are graphics cards capable of running 2160p ie = 4x Super Sampling but that resolution is even better appreciated on an actual 4K display. I still find it necessary to run 2x MSAA in 4K to smooth out jaggies. A 1080 Ti has no trouble doing that.

I had tried Nvidia DSR (super Sampling) when I had a 1080p screen and thought in DCS that MSAA looked and performed better.

When I fly on the monitor 2k resolution, so is 2x msaa setting satisfactory.

But when I turn on the projector fullhd, I need to turn on 2x ssaa together 4x msaa.

The graphics are red-hot, but still is the image jagged.

Well I remember the perfect AA in DCS of 1.5, when the high value of 16Q, everything looked great.

Please ED to more work on such an important enhancement, thank you.

Dont think they re gonna work on game optimisation

They should work on optimisation - saying to people they need 2000+ USD pc is a bit too much. 16 GB RAM and 6 GB GPU should be enough at this point in time and it is enough for any other sim on the market.

Yeah I know this sim will need a lot of optimisation, but I don`t see any intention in doing that from ED

They are moving to the Vulkan API, which should go a very long way towards optimizing the engine for better performance.

Yeah, optimization is very much in demand right now. I have a $2k rig and must say Im far from satisfied about the random misterious stutterings, oscillations in performance and instability. Beta feels like an alpha and stable like a beta? Hopefully vulkan will be the miracle solution, but a simpler optimization may be a good start. The unoficial shadder mod, for example, helped a lot.
