This is what I'm considering:
GREEN = already owned Red = comments / questions CPU i7-9700K (8 cores makes sense for future proofing, don't need HT for flight sims.) H/S Noctua NH-D15 GPU EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 RAM G.Skill Trident Z 32GB (2x16) 3200MHz CL14-14-14-34 G.Skill Ripjaws V Z 32GB (2x16) 3200MHz CL14-14-14-34 (Both are Samsung B-Die so what's the difference???) M/B Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite (Same VRM as the Pro or Ultra - can't see how basic OCing will be much better???) Z370??? Storage 2X Samsung 860 Evo 500GB (OS + FS) PSU Corsair TX750 Corsair RM750x Seasonic Focus Gold 750 Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750 (As far as I can tell there's no difference in each product line other than one is semi modular???) Case Fractal Design Meshify C Full tower high airflow (particularly with a large air CPU cooler)??? Display Acer Predator XB271HU 27" GSync IPS Controllers Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS CH Rudder Pedals TrackIR

The Corsair RMx is a Tier 1 (Highest Quality PSUs). Corsair TX, Seasonic Focus and Focus Plus are Tier 2 (High Quality (less than Tier 1)). I have a Seasonic X-850, run 24/7, and i sleep very well.

Q) What makes the Corsair RMx "better" than the Seasonic Focus? In reviews the Sesonic Focus often come out on top (in the end I'll probably just go for the best deal but just wondering).

If you don't mind waiting a bit, this rumor could be interesting. Maybe saving some money...

The Corsair TX has a 5 years warranty, the RMx 10 years. The RMx has 100% Japanese 105°C capacitors (high quality), the TX not. The TX is a bronze certified efficiency, he will generate more heat and his components will degrade faster. The TX platform (3.3v rail transient response is not good and the ripple at +12v is a little high) is not as good as the RMx platform.
This is the TX-M, not the TX: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...u,5062-11.html https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...ly,4303-8.html

The Seasonic (Focus 7 years warranty, Focus Plus 10 years) are very good (Tier 2) for their price, but not a top end like the RMx (Tier 1). The mid-range platform of the Focus has some weakness. The 3.3v transient response, the 5vsb rail has a 3% deviation (could be better), the hold-on time is a little high. Because of his compact size, the Focus use a 120mm fan that spins faster, noisier than a 135-140mm.

A weak PSU is like a Porsche on 195er Winter tyres and 80* fuel only. It won't serve you nice.

Again, and again. I will repeat this every time. Don't buy a decent PSU, but instead buy an excellent PSU. If you do that it will, most likely, carry you through your next two or three builds. From that perspective it will actually be cheaper than buying three 'decent' PSU's. A cheap CPU or GPU has never destroyed an entire computer, a cheap PSU has, can and will.
