Upgrading from HDD to SSD. Is it worth it?

I’m thinking about upgrading my HDD to a Samsung 970 Pro SSD. Would I see a noticeable increase in FPS (not loading time) in VR? Some say it mainly increases loading times. But would it give me a flat out increase in FPS?

Thanks

I am gathering components currently for a new I9 build.

This will be my first rig that will not have a platter drive in it.

I think the overall performance difference between any type of SSD versus platter will be mainly in game loading, windows loading times.

Yup, and you don't necessarily need to go for top-of-the-line when selecting an SSD. The difference in Windows loading times and game loading times alone will make the switch well worth it, even if you don't go with the 870 pro series. I don't remember if there was a significant difference in game performance once things were loaded though. I gave up on mechanical drives for OS and program files a long time ago. Tried an SSD and never looked back. :D

Pagefiles on SSD seem to show better in-game performance . Just my impression...

An SSD will certainly improve loading times including anything that may need to be loaded post startup of a mission (or MP) however any increase in FPS during game play is unlikely unless you have other areas of system performance that may benefit from an SSD, maybe pagefile read/writ if system memory is low or just reading stuff from SSD/HDD for transfer to GPU if it's VRAM capacity is low. However that may not be a significant improvement in FPS, although DCS may feel a little smother overall.

FPS is more to do with the CPU and GPU number crunching capacity of your machine and having enough RAM and VRAM as well as tuning settings.

In use DCS/OS drive usage.

Okay having said that, the overall performance boost adding an SSD as a system drive gives, is IMO significant and worth it. Without knowing anymore details of your system build it is difficult to gauge what improvement you might expect to get for DCS in VR. :)

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.
