[SP] Operation Persian Power

I am greatly intrigued by this mission, but every time I've tried it, I get no AI flights.

I've got the mission script LUA file modified correctly (it works with DCE and other missions that require it). I load the mission, choose a slot, and I get all the right messages and the menu F10 options (choose target, etc). But nothing ever takes off except the Tankers and AWACS. I flew around for 30 minutes with no action.

Is there a different way I have to load the mission? I'm opening it in the Editor first (to change loadouts and add a wingman).

Thanks again. It's guys like you that are keeping SP alive for me, honestly.

Obviously the scripts are loaded otherwise you would not see the intro messages and the tanker/awacs take off. You should always see a AI flight being dispatched within 30 seonds to 5 minutes from mission start. I have no clue what could cause this problem, I have not seen this behaviour yet. Do you have the same problem if you load the mission through single player without editing anything? Could you run the mission for 5 minutes, shutdown and post your log file?

Not sure if you saw it but there is a new MOOSE dev version fixes issue with AI not wanting to engage with BVR against players.

Yes, I read something about it. Thanks for pointing this out. Explains why I have been flying like an ace :megalol:

Will swap the MOOSE version in the new version!

I got the Caucasus version to work, no problem! Lotta fun so far! A couple of questions, though:

1) Is there anyway to get Lon/Lat coords for OTHER flights? So if I wanted to escort a SEAD flight or something, I could get their target info and plug into my Hornet.

2) Along the same lines, would it be possible to add a "request an A2A mission" instead of an A2G mission?

3) Does moving the front-lines (defined by by the waypoints used by MOOSE) and airfield owners mess up the scripts at all? I wanted to give the Red side a few more airfields inside of Georgia.

I'm absolutely loving the mew missions that are coming out. You guys have made this SP player VERY happy! THANK YOU!

1) Not yet. You can select the SEAD flight on the F10 map and enable 'show waypoint' option. It will show you the route and waypoints the SEAD flight is flying. I need to think how I could build such a request in the menu structure.

2) Great idea! This I can implement quite easy. Will put this on the ToDo list.

3) No. The mission is designed to be very flexible. There are 2 things you can adjust in the mission editor to customize the battlefield.

First you can assign airports to RED or BLUE in the mission editor to your liking.

Second you need to adjust the two (hidden) helicopter groups that define the CAP zones for RED and BLUE. Simply dragging/adding/removing waypoints to the 2 helicopter groups will define the CAP zones in which CAP flights will patrol.

Note that you do need to reset the mission (remove save files from DCS root) to make this work. Otherwise BLUE flights will spawn at airbases that might have RED defense units.

A few suggestions :

Would it be possible to remove an aircraft from the blue reserve when a blue player is killed ?

Also, could you add helicopters (playable and IA) for both sides in places close to the frontline (Khasab, for example) ?

Finally, you can add "SP/Coop" in the title : I tried the mission with friends and it works perfectly ! Even when reloading a previous "campaign".

Thanks a lot for your work !

Thank you for your feedback .

Latest version registers a player death as a loss of aircraft.

Adding helo's sounds cool. I need to see how I could add these.

Glad to hear it works in COOP as well. I actually tried to change the thread title but it doesn't change :(

I suggest adding a pool of helicopters, separate from the pool of aircrafts for Blue and Red, and making them spawn, either in airports close to the frontline, or spawn FARPs dynamically (don't forget to add supply trucks and command posts to allow rearm/refuel) and the helos on top of them.

Might be easier said than done, though ...

  • 3 weeks later...

I only found this gem today, flew only for a few hours, but I am sure this is the most promising action-packed dynamic campaign project!!

* Fast and Furious, perfect when you need the heat but don't have enough time

* AI aircraft from both sides actively do something, feels like in the middle of some battle (relative to other MOOSE based PvE mission which enemies can only react to the player's actions)

* Most importantly, sense of achievement / progression. I kicked and I died but I was there. Someday I can finish the damn war.

Can't wait to see how this beautiful project evolves. Salute!

@Recommend uploading to the dcs website user files section, if not already done so. Many people like me prefer simply checking the website for new files, rather than digging through the vast forum. There may be many potential fans for your work who didnt get the news.

  • 1 month later...

Trying to do Persian Power in the newest version 2.5.6.43931.

At first try, AWACS and Tankers immediately killed about 1 min after the mission start.

It seems they are spawning at the wrong point and somehow got killed by collision / explosion.

Changed mission settings in Mission Editor / set rules for trigger / spawnType to SPAWN.Takeoff.Air and it runs Ok.

Didnt try on other theater (vegas or georgia)

Maybe moving around AWACS and Tanker will solve the problem but didnt try

This mission is the only reason I am playing DCS these days. Hope get more attention and Thanks again to the creator.

Hey man, thanks for your great feedback.

I'm not using DCS beta myself, so I currently can not test it.

I'm using MOOSE functions to spawn all aircraft, so maybe there is a incompatibility with the latest beta update.

I think I'll wait for the next stable update to see if this is indeed still a problem

Feeling dumber than a box of spanners here sorry in advance.

Downloaded the missions.

Downloaded Moose.lua (wasn't sure if I need the static or dynamic version tho??)

Adjusted the file to remark out those headers as directed in the top post.

Ran the mission editor and loaded the Persian version, went into the trigger section and pointed the moose loading bit to the moose.lua file I downloaded.

Ran the mission.........

Mission started loading then threw several errors and error boxes etc......

Not sure what bit I am doing wrong at this point ?

Nope, I am missing something else clearly.......

Do I need to do anything more than download a moose.lua ? do I need to install any other supporting files for it for example ?

Some screens attached.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how much you have edited in the mission editor, but you should not have to download or edit MOOSE at all. It is packaged in the whole mission (.miz is essentially a zip file) by the mission maker.

Maybe download again and start from scratch, and you don't need to touch any MOOSE component.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Got it working thanks

I too have the perpetual Spawn and instant kill of tankers and awacs......will wait with eager anticipation to see if it gets fixed :)

I think I had edited the wrong lua initially, then tried to fix by downloading the moose and got in a bad circle of problems, it is working now at least tho thanks.
