bomber formations

Hi

Three B-17 samples from ED

https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3176515&postcount=27

I modified ED`s B_17_Wing_of_CombatBox_stress.miz

Altitude 25,000 ft

Speed ME 225 = 150 IAS

Bomber + 4x escort have no gun ammo

and some basic-examples

* Search and Engage

* Attack Map Object

* Switch Waypoint

As long as the AI flight/damage model isn`t revised I use this as a :D stress-free dog-fight training ( climbing, avoid stalling, avoid overheating, ... )

If you are familiar with MIZ (= ZIP) and Notepad++

You can replace ["gun"] = 0, with ["gun"] = 100,

in \B_17 36x3 no gun ammo\mission

I tried to do a big wing with the HE111. It would only allow me to add one plane per group. Is that normal?

is anyone playing with the bombers again lately? doing everything as before but those b17s wont go into box formatian anymore, just some echolon right.

Again I'll say, where are the bombs? Why would anyone waste time on formations, when you have nothing to bomb with?

the b-17 is default empty, just add the bomb loadout and they work fine

Can't load bombs...set waypoint then bomb drop point no bombs to drop:music_whistling:

You need to create a new payload in the mission editor to be able to load bombs on the B-17.

In the loadouts page, click the "New" button to create a new loadout. The B-17 has a single hardpoint. Right click this hardpoint, select "Bombs", select "12 AN-M64", and viola, you have bombs. For B-17s I use the advanced waypoint assignment "WWII:carpet bombing". This always works for me, although get ready for a serious fps drop when the bombers drop their bombs. For about 10 sec or so it's a slide show.

When I say " No Bombs " this is of course because I see no bombs in payload after making a new payload...but I will try once more your way...:music_whistling:

Edit: 3:12pm

Still no bombs to load...

You have to add a load-out scheme to the B-17G. You only have to do it once. It's like a template. Once you've do it, it can be used on any B-17G you add in the ME.

When you hit the wrong button on take-off

Do the bombers now hold formation and defend with gun placements when attacked? or do they still think they are fighters and try to dogfight?

Haven't gone that far yet..now that I got the bombs to show up..later today will setup a small formation and check it out...:thumbup:

Just an FYI for the old bomber mods like the He111. When they were released aircraft in the strategic bomber class could only be a single aircraft in a flight so there is a parameter you should be able to locate in the main aircraft lua that looks like singleInFlight = true change this to singleInFlight = false being careful not to chop off the comma at the end of the line. You will then be able to have up to 4 aircraft in a flight and with the changes that came in with the B17 from ED all the aircraft will appear in game - well they did for me with a quick test of the He111 this evening anyway.

So for an example to help out, if you look in the He111 folder you'll find a file named something like He111.lua. Open it up with notepad++, scroll down to around line 223 and you find the parameter I mention above. Change it as suggested, save it and exit. Load up DCS and see if you can create a formation of 4 aircraft in the editor and go from there. All the bombers like the B26 and B24 etc that Markindel released will be like this if I recall things correctly.

Please note that if you use something like JSGME you need to unload the mod before you make the edit and then reload the mod before starting DCS.

This should save you some work in creating formations although I do not know if setting them up using the WW2 bomber formation and carpet bombing advanced waypoint actions will work properly as there may be special code for the ED B17 which is not present in the mod. Note also that due to the inability to properly set the turret firing arcs in these mods you will find the formation of He111s etc very deadly. Basically no-one has discovered how to set up the turrets properly since the release of the official B17.

Have a go anyway and see how you travel. Hope it helps.
