The little Story of WELD's COCKPIT

Weltensegler

Recommended Posts

I admit this was only a code sample to hook a script writer that might drop by and not a proper layout of the problem :)

Well this code comes into the cmsc_page. lua not the monitor lua.

Not at computer atm but in case you wanna try you can put it right over the the first "TXT" block after the local variables.

Watch out the vertices of the mesh are in METER scale in case you wanna adjust to your own layout!

And if you don't have the Z value in initial position at -1 then the polygon will actually stick in you ingame cockpit unless you prevent that by killing its render purpose.

But no its unfortunately not that simple.

I can have it in the cmsc and big enough to cover the rwr and at the same time have the rwr below the cmsc in the monitor.lua and it still gets covered.

It must have to do with the way the rwr is coded bc I can fully control created polygons in level and depth in the cmsc but the rwr gets always covered or if I try to give the an_alr69v_page.lua an own mesh it just doesn't show up anymore...neither the indicator itself nor the mesh :)

So I am trying to understand whats special about it if its parenting or radius/diameter code that works in a different scale.

If so can I SetScale=(meters) or will then the whole indicator break?

I need to spend some more nights with it. Never perfectly focused then but that's the time have left :)

Love it, nice work WELD. Been trying to plan out a cockpit I could just slide (okay heave) under my desk when not in use, but had some height and design issues I couldn't figure out. You solved all of them - THANKYOU ! TM Warthog purchased, design works on paper, leave days booked... should probably warn the misses (especially since I need her for the chair cushioning/covering and anything artistic). Hey it looks like you decreased the rearward tile of your seat half way thru (could be the piccys), any reason you went for such a heavy rearward tilt originally or (if u did) changed it? Good work mate, one of the smartest and cleanest pit builds I've seen (aka wife-approvable).

Thank you sir!

Glad it could inspire some project!

As I mentioned its meant to be a hybrid for F18 too and usually sonic jets have a less vertical tilt than bombers like the A-10 (since their HUD is not primarily oriented to ground targets I assume :) ).

When you look at the socket for the seat you see I already built it so the seat sits at an angle.

On top of that I tilted the seat back even more at that time.

But actually I modified that already to a more steep tilt bc in this laying position my a** and legs fell asleep too fast (also caused by too soft/thin cession though)

I can't agree with cleanest built though :) bc its all improvised, no plans ever existed...all done by holding it there "hm naaa little bit more here"..."those screws are too short I do it again...where is my vodka?" :D

And I thought "look, another punny front panel ugly woodboard effort..."

And then, it took off... :pilotfly:

Amazing stuff!!!

haha, thank you! :) my only concern is Nevada map.

If nobody writes a new softTH for dx11 I might be a little screwed.

On the other hand Nevada tokk and will take its time so we might see some more CPU and graphic card generations that actually can give me current performance in windowed mode.

Still not the same bc I cant render over half displays and all the other nice features.

A bit yes :) well the front panel 24" touch screen gets pretty hot despite the space I left for airflow.

The PC of course too. Though the CPU is water cooled I can only run it at 4.9GHz in the winter (L.A winter)

And its recommended to fly in underwear if a mission takes longer than an hour bc the room is not much bigger than the cockpit.

Need to find some astronaut under ware with water circulation.

actually they make water cooled shirts and stuff for auto racing. My neighbor's 10yr old son has one for the TX summers when its over 100 degrees and he's sitting in the car in all his gear waiting for the lineup.

Yea its crazy ...a 10 year old racing "mini" (Bandolero class) stock cars.

Weld.... I stand in awe... from the seat to where you are in 1 year? Spooky

Glad to see you've got a room to yourself for this!

In /54.jpg is that a helmet I see on the seat? Was that a precious find or does somebody actually make them?

In short.... it makes look at my pit my pit and say, "right, redo from start" :(

Sorry I'm late, I thought nobody posted anything since last summer cuz I stopped getting notifications for some reason.

That Helmet is just a stupid cheap made in china "fighter pilot style" motorbike helmet from ebay that doesn't even fit my head when I ripped out the cushions, dont buy it! The real deal costs 400-1000 bucks, not worth it.

Would be nice of course to have a mask with real oxygen flow especially when you get tired at n8 flying your sim :)

Or vape some kerosine through it for the extreme experiance, haha

Some of the guys on the ViperPits forums were using converted CPAP machines to send air to their oxygen masks. Unfortunately e-Bay now prohibits the re-sale of them due to the manufactures suing them.

The cheapest I could find was $288.15 at http://www.cpap.com/cpap-machines-all.php?priceRange=400#1:::400:price:20: , of course you still have to get a helmet and mask.

That's a great Idea! Helmet and Mask are not the problem. Getting a more modern one soon hopefully. Gotta convert the mic so its compatible with my PC.

I do have some kind of sleep apnea so I can beat two birds with one stone maybe :D though sleeping in an MBU mask is probably not quiet comfortable, hehe.
