The equivalent of Wal-mart night vision is superior to what Russia has available, to the extent it's a frequent subject of espionage and smuggling. The last smuggling op busted was just last year, I believe. Everybody and their dog having nvgs is NOT realistic, even today. Russian pilots having nvgs equal in quantity or quality to US gear is NOT realistic, even today.
