Cant achieve over 22 FPS in 2.5?

I don’t know what else to shut down? I was getting 30 FPS with Helios running on a 2nd monitor prior to the update to 2.5 yesterday, now Im only getting 21 to 22 max. I locked DCS at 30 FPM in the autoexe config in the other versions because I was not really getting much between say 35 – 50 before, and DCS was running at a solid 30 and Fluid for DCS 1.5 Open Beta and 2.2 Open Alpha. After the update to 2.5 yesterday, I was not able to get over 22 FPS running the same instant action tests, and it is very choppy. So I started experiment until I got to the point I ran it with only one monitor, cranked ALL the settings down, cycled between Full screen, Differed shading On or Off. I am down to bare bones here with settings and there has been no FPs increase at all compared to everything on and next to nothing. I don’t seem to have any background tasks running, Im not running any MODS during this test, I even deleted:

“Go to c:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\ and delete contents of "fxo" and "metashaders" folders (if there are any), then hop into "config" folder and delete options.lua file (to clear/reset all game settings apart from controller assignments).”

I have a pretty good PC here running @ 4.8Mhz, I have no clue as to what I should change next to experiment with? I do have the luxury of restoring my PC back to prior to the update if need be for any reason because I did a system backup prior.

I accidentally found this tip in another post, and it made a word of difference. A bunch of quick tests yielded 29-30 FPS with EVERYTHING maxed out. Its a tad choppy so I have some tinkering to do. Now how was I supposed to know to turn on FXAA in Nvidia control panel after the update??? I would have spent days on this and gave up if I had not found that tip!

"Disable MSAA in game. Enable FXAA in nvidia panel. Enable deferred shading. lower gamma. "

yea using the NVidia control panel is preferable, at first mine was very smooth, I didn't look at fps, when I did I was getting around 25, but really smooth, would never have guessed was so low, a little tinkering leaving the new shadow texture on, and decreasing trees to 30 % as nice as they are there really is too many, I know get 45fps, this is with only a modest pc

Turn Deffered Shading to OFF. I dunno what it is supposed to do, but all it does on my system is run slow and looks ugly. Everything is either burned out, or too dark like film noir. Sliding gamma around just brightens or darkens a garrish ugly scene.

I7-3700 3.7, PNY Quadro K4000, 32gb ran, DCS is one screen 2560 X 1440. Latest Nvidia reference drivers 377.35 Vsync Off

I suspect it is going to be a few updates before performance is optimized. I forsake all AA, Deffered Shading, and ground shadows. HDR and Lens Flare is on for sun effect. Daylight missions don't suffer from HDR set to OFF, but at night the ground is too bright unless HDR is ON. Otherwise night time missions are no harder then day time. Everything else is low.

Agree that there is likely to be updates to improve graphics, but generally speaking, the expectations were to have graphics much like what are represented in Wags videos. Wags has previously published not only his PC specs, but also his graphics settings. He was not running anything unusual. I believe my PC specs alone are above his. So why are we struggling a bit? Thats what I aim to find out. I succeeded in finding out about the FXAA setting in Nvidia, my frame rates got up to 29 - 30, but its choppy unlike the videos we have watched. Hopefully soon

I dunno with detail what the specs are on machine that the sample missions were flown. By I guess it would be higher end I7-6890X ,Core I9 with K, 32 or 64gb ram, and 1080Ti or Pascal Titan, or SLI 2 10XX boards. In VFX post production, my employer/client usually issues me a box with similar hardware, and often a Quadro P5000 board. That is also a 'standard' specs for game, VR, and AR developers. Though realtime games and console game developers usually prefer GTX instead of Quadro. That kind of box can probably drive DCS 2.5 at max setting with three 4K panels. If it doesn't then DCS has some optimization to do.

My box was decent home workstation about 4-5 years ago. I7-3770K 3.7ghz, 32gb ram, Nvidia Quadro K4000 (Keppler GPU). Driving 2560X1440 main screen and one 1920X1080 2nd panel. DCS is limited to main 2540X1440 panel. At best I can only expect 24-36 FPS, and lower with trees, and lower with Deffered Shade.

No, Wags rig was not described as high end. I will have to search for that info tonight

IIRC Wags has a 1080, not a 980Ti or lower, so his specs might be higher at this crucial point.

Still, there seem to be a few bugs present that need attention, fps for some, memory consumption ( statement if yes or no 16GB is insufficient now ), and a few more.

People with old i5's will be left behind, that is what I can see from latest builds and my own findings. 4 cores are too little for DCS now, my own 8700k is pushing hard to keep pace with 6 cores running mad, at 5+G. So I wonder where a 4c i5 will be with 2.5. Even 4c i7's will struggle. It really looks like 32GB and many cores, those should still be very fast too.

Check out Wags' signature for his setup. I don't remember the details off hand, but that's where I found them.

Wags PC specs = i7 6700K, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1080ti, Windows 10, 1TB SSD, according to his sig. Yeah, I have a 980 TI Hybrid compared to his 1080, overclocking my GPU did not make much difference, but his CPU I assume is not overclocked. I dont see that he would be expected to run much smoother than me?

hmm so what is this autoexec.cfg you speak of?

If you don't know what it is, than you don't have to worry.

But it's a cfg file where you can limit fps, change affinity mask, so on.Someone with more technical knowledge can explain better.
