Should I upgrade my i7-4790?

Recommended Posts

Once 2.5 has arrived as "stable" I will check a new GPU, till then I am more than happy with the 980GTX and 4GB VRAM. I dont have the slightest need to upgrade that beast for 1.5.x :)

Are yousure those will be cheaper then ?? I have my sincere doubts any xx80-Ti will sell for less than 600€ in FE edition. They will again end up between 800 and 900€ for decent cards I fear. The Asus 1080Ti Poseidon is a whopping 949€ !!! Thats 200 more than what I paid for my 980 poseidon. The trend in the past was UP, not down. What they write as "street Price" with their marketing gag is not what you will find on the shelf usually.

Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Asus 1080ti EK-waterblock - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus PG278Q 27" QHD Gsync 144Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

ofc you likely paid "more". the the TI is enthusiast grade while the 1080 is still within the high end class of cards , the current gen equivalent of last gens 980 vanilla.

given the significant performance jump from last gen, but then again we were stuck on 28nm cards for like 2-3 generations.

I did not own last gen cards ( i jumped from a amd 280x which was a gtx 770 equivalent give or take) but from general observation the prices for respective cards have remained relatively the same. (slightly higher slightly lower sometimes)
