Canadian guy did a good job, that's very impressive. Not sure if here is the best place to talk about this though.

He beat the previous distance record of over 1km... A great sniper for sure, but lucky shot too

And the flight time must be around 10s, so you kind of have to guess the target's movements over a full 10s, or hope they stay exactly still, hope the weather remains the same for 10s, hope the wind remains the same over 3.45km for 10s etc.

Oh for sure, both impressive, but what about a shot from >2km using iron sights with an out-dated K31 rifle with Swiss 7.5x55mm rounds.

well, military snipers don't get 58 chances to nail one guy. im sure if i had unlimited bullets i too would eventually be able to hit anything the bullet can reach, optics or no.

But equally, firing into a crowd of people from long range makes a hit more likely. Even if you don't hit the person you're aiming for, you'll probably hit someone.

Yeah Canadian Forces back on "top". JTF2 gets pretty hushed so I am not surprised the details are not released, hopefully someday. In fact I am shocked they admitted they where in Iraq.

On that point at these distanced it is far from a one shot one kill, I like tho think if it more as accurate suppressing fire. I believe the British chap who held the record before fired 9 times for two targets. Still an incredible feat.

Indeed, especially with a .338 that's only rated at 1,600m. Accurate calculation at these ranges is a fairy tale. Rob Furlong's kill also took 3 shots. I think in this instance it helped that he was firing on a militant group, so there were several targets together.
