now that ED is doing it, why not make the 1free flyable the tf51?

its a great idea, its a crime to giveaway such birds for free, id be happy to pay for em. TF51 for free would be nice+P51 if u have it in World

in hind sight, the kickstarter had the free plane as (P47D, Spitfire or BF109) to be voted on by the backers.

With the TF-51, Users can get a taste of the systems, cockpit, Flight model, and fly in MP.

A combat capable aircraft my generate more popularity result in more people trying and purchasing further DCS aircraft.

DCS World comes with a free, fully combat capable aircraft, so I don't see any reason why DCS WWII should not.

Exactly. With the TF-51, someone could not even try out the Create Fast Mission tool (unless they were a serious masochist).

well with the tf51 there are already people flying on our server in a combat environment, and have actively influence in the outcome of the mission, with recon flights...so its not totally useless at all.

They didnt, which is why I never thought to have the TF as the free plane, I always wanted a true WWII trainer.

a T-6 makes perfect sense and it even had a combat role.

Pay to win it would be the p47 it could fight but of all the aircraft is the underdog.

well, from a business point of view in the current situation, does it make sense to make one of the 4 planes released in the near future a free plane?i doubt it...

Business wise, keeping the TF-51D as the free Aircraft/Demonstrator just makes the most sense.

I meant the TF-51D was not part of DCSW during the Kickstarter or even remotely after, so it was never considered by RRG to include it in DCS WWII

I'd say forget the free plane offer completely. The only people losing out then are those who didn't contribute to the KS at all anyway so there's no obligation to them. They're three iconic birds and if done well will sell well. Given what ED will be putting into this project I don't see any reason why non backers should get free stuff. I don't even know why $1 backers get three flyables but that's what was agreed so will have to be stuck too.

This could be interesting way to "bundle up" planes and lure more people into sims.. :pilotfly:

Although I think the "single module" way is still the preferred way in many cases these could be interesting to many also.

So if they do take the TF-51, you're going to get a WWII combat sim with 1960's planes that can't shoot anything... Great advertising ;)

Seriously though, you're not after the committed prop head with the free aircraft, you/re after the casual simmer who may or may not be sold on the idea of DCSWWII. There were ~2500 backers of the kickstarter, assuming the represent a good portion of the section of the audience that are salivating over DCSWWII, the rest are going to be a harder sell.

Just for context, assuming each backer bought P-51 at an average of $30 (accounting for sales), you are talking $75k, which wouldn't even cover the FM development cost. You are gunning for MUCH bigger numbers if this project is in any way going to break even. If that means throwing in a free aircraft to entice the more casual end of the audience in, then that's what needs to happen. Engaging the audience with sample of *actual combat* is much more likely to get people involved with the product than flying round in a nerfed aircraft from the wrong period. It's just the flying equivalent of "sex sells".

I can't see how giving a lame duck of an aircraft away so a few backers don't get hurt because someone is "getting something I paid good money for" makes any sense at all...

As for the server cleanliness argument, how many griefers do we really get with the SU25T? Not many as far as I've seen, and most of them wouldn't even get the Stang off the ground, given the right enforced difficulty setting.... And even if they did they'd probably kill the engine in no time, therefore becoming self limiting ;)
