Are there any user made terrains?

Recommended Posts

I have so far never seen a user made terrain. User made planes exist so why not terrains? Is there a prohibition on those?

In general I believe DCS is the best simulator in terms of the actual flight simulation and aircraft systems simulation and I think DCS is missing out on a significant customer base by not having large terrains.

Obviously any large terrain must be generated from existing databases. Hand made terrains is out of the question. But DCS could harness it's user base to fill out details by giving out specs or even selling a developer kit.

There aren’t, no. To make a terrain you need access to the SDK, which is not available for general public use.

But I'm not talking about texture pack it was terrain over Nevada's terrain.

The only way, at present, to add a new "map" would be as a user-made static object. So not really a map but I'm guessing that's how it was done.

How about adding stuff to the outskirts of existing maps, like crimea etc?

Indeed, that thought has occurred to me. Filling out Normandy to get a BoB terrain specifically. But now were getting an actual cliffs of Dover terrain.

But a real large terrain is what I asked for. I do think hard core simmers would flock if DCS had large terrains.

One problem would be dcs isn’t accurate in its placement of objects that’s why real world flight charts don’t work in dcs.
