All the windowing environments since the XEROX to MAC OS to Windows and all rest, has capability to have only one window at the time as "active", and everything else are "inactive".

The reason for this is that we have two main input devices, keyboard and mouse, that we need to be able to program that to what window does the input go and that window can then generate output.

Now, this is little problematic many ways, but one of the great things in the Windows world was the DirectX API, that made super easy (compared to everything else like X11 windowing system) to get multiple different input/output devices work together. So that we could get a mouse and keyboard as with various MIDI devices or gaming devices to send input, and have a DirectX to output that to corresponding programs. But the Windows side is still based window limitations so you can have only one window active at the time to it capture the mouse and keyboard properly.

You can get a third party applications that can enforce specific windows to be always active.

There are various applications for that, and likely again AutoHotKey comes to rescue. Example here is a one for "Always-on-Top" (doesn't mean "Always-Active") but something can be found for that too: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/howto/windows-programs-always-on-top/#:~:text=To%20make%20the%20active%20window,icon%20in%20the%20system%20tray.

Windows is little challenging in these merits then again when it comes to window management, as there are better options and more capable ones on other systems (even the old X11 example for Unix systems), what is little ironic that Windows is literally in its name but it is least usable in it :D

No, the solution for this problem is just one mouseklick away in the options-VR-tab

  • 4 weeks later...

This works to fix the "Window out of focus!" issue -

Open STEAM, bring up DCS World, have Steam ready to hit the “PLAY” button.

Activate the VR headset.

If the VR Window opens on top of the Steam Window, move the VR window away from the Steam Window.

Minimize the VR Window.

Hit the “PLAY” button in the Steam Window. After DCS World starts, minimize the Steam window.

AT DCS World Main Screen, close the “cross eye alert” window.

Ensure the Options-VR Tab’s “cursor confined to game window” box is checked

Press ALT + Enter to go full screen on the DCS Window (thereby confining the mouse cursor). (Take a peek out of the VR Headset to ensure the DCS Window is full screen on your monitor)
