HSI MODE Option

Our current HSI MODE Option, displays on the left side:

 

T UP, N UP, DCTR, MAP, Slew.

 

However seeing as our aircraft is after afc 327 (lot12), it should instead display on the left side:

 

T UP, CHRT, DCTR, Slew. With MAP on the top row, left.

 

Subsequent presses of the CHRT button, will cycle between CHRT(Chart), DTED(Digital Terrain Elevation Data), CIB(Controlled Image Base)

Bump. This has been brought up multiple times, without a clear answer. It would be nice if we at least got an answer to it, while we wait for the feature to come later.

CIB can already be implemented, as we have a satellite map option in the ME and the F10 map and would really make the moving map feature more useful for missions. The only thing missing in the sim is a DTED map.

This might be an intentional simplification by ED. The DTED and CIB options would require special elevation maps and/or target imagery to be created. As it is the CHART option is the only one that makes sense.

 

Although I’d like to see the proper menu options, perhaps with DTED and CIB showing effectively no map.

They could very well just use the MAP/SAT/ALT formats that they use in the mission editor and F10 map. They already use the MAP as the CHRT, so using the ALT as DTED wouldnt be far fetched.

Exactly, it's better than nothing. And SAT can work for CIB. They pretty much have everything they need, at least for a decent first integration.

Yeah fair play. Would be a good solution in the medium term.

Sorry, just to clarify. ED have no plans on modelling AFC 327?

 

So no TAMMAC; no DTED, CIB etc. Along with the accompanying HSI layout changes? Does this mean the functions that currently use the DTED (as opposed to laser ranging or agr) will also be changed?

Thanks for asking BN. This doesn't make much sense though. A mid-2000's USN F/A-18C, especially ours, which is a Lot 20 (165407), should have TAMMAC. There are several other threads talking about this.

 

We already have several features that were implemented after TAMMAC. What is the team's justification for this? Lack of public data is certainly not a problem and DCS already has map data for all 3 formats (CHRT, DTED, CIB). The JF-17 can already swap between a chart map and an elevation map, for example.

 

It would be nice to get an answer that makes sense, as in "here is a public source that says that TAMMAC was not present at that time". Thank you.

I would like to also point out that our hornet uses TAWS instead of GPWS, TAWS is a function that uses the data drawn from the DTED in the TAMMAC to drive the pull up cues. If our hornet is truly not having TAMMAC then, for the sake of continuity, we shouldn't have TAWS either.

True. And although TAWS can operate without DTED in a backup mode, the TAWS system requires the TAMMAC upgrade.

Thanks BN. Have that moment occurred already? I think the answer given before not only doesn't make sense but also goes against the module fidelity, which if ED started to go that path then my intentions on future modules might change as well.

I think I was trying to ask about the TAMMAC and DTED features but I didn't clarify it, sorry I was a little sleepy.

 

What does the dev team say about those?

May I request this decision be reflected in the manual? Perhaps a description of each map mode, followed by "Not simulated." as in other DCS products. It will hopefully (I doubt it) cut down on bug reports in the future after the full release.

Also it would add to the completeness to know that the lack of these map options is intentional, but they exist in the real aircraft.
