ED Team NineLine Posted January 24, 2018 ED Team Share Posted January 24, 2018 Just a simple name change on this map to make it easier to identify for people. Believe it or not, many people are not sure where Strait of Hormuz is. When ED starts the pre-purchase, a map of the included area will be shown so customers know exactly the portion of the PG that will be included. 33-DFTC
They could just adopt the nomenclature from their current DLC maps : - DCS : Nevada Test and Training Range - DCS : Normandy 1944 Edit : Hmm … At least SithSpawn clarified it. There are only two types of aircraft, fighters and targets. - Major Doyle "Wahoo" Nicholson, USMC
javelina1
The new name makes better sense. terminator363
Good call on the name change, the "Persian Gulf" is definitely better known to the masses. Happy Bug Hunting!
Spudknocker
While I get that Persian Gulf is more recognizable to the masses I feel like anyone with the pre-requisite aviation knowledge needed to be interested in DCS is going to know what/where the straight of Hormuz is... But then again it makes sense to call it Persian Gulf as well. I have no expectations for Kuwait or Iraq being included although it would be nice! We just need some SA-2 guideline sams now haha [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Spudknocker DCS World YouTube Channel!! NRG-Vampire
new year, new plans. (instead of new names) things are always changin' :smilewink: (see my sigpic) :D my ▼ question was only theoretical  https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3366250#post3366250 dont't forget guys: an "ordinary" DCS map (basemap) is about approx 1500*1000 km, and can be expansible anytime Edited January 25, 2018 by NRG-Vampire
QuiGon
I'm afraid the name change might invoke some people to expect Iraq to be part of the map because of the "Gulf Wars". I'm going to have to agree with this. Straight of Hormuz specified exactly where I could expect the map to cover. When you say Persian Gulf, I immediately expect a map covering the entire Persian Gulf...not a small sub-section of it. I will wait for the final map parameters to be released before commenting further, however, expect new people to be unhappy when they buy "DCS: Persian Gulf" and only get the Straight of Hormuz. That is the glass half empty thought, the glass half full takes the map from being locked into just the Strait of Hormuz and makes the possibilities of expansions to the map fit the name. I like to think ED is always thinking ahead. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

Yeah, it's like making a Gibraltar Strait map and calling it "DCS:Mediterranean sea". Based on the map area posted by Matt Wagner some time ago, there's actually bigger part of Gulf of Oman than Persian Gulf there. aileron
Agree, Persian Gulf will mean Kuwait and Iraq for tons of people. This is exactly what I thought, because of the 'PERSIAN GULF' war, or 'GULF' war. Also I would assume why this very thread came to be.
Donut
The Straight of Hormuz divides the Persian Gulf to the west and the Gulf of Oman to the east. A map titled "DCS: Persian Gulf" to me would mean the area covered would include the Straight of Hormuz but be shifted to the west to include more of the Persian Gulf as opposed to the Gulf of Oman. How much of a shift to the west is anybody's guess but hopefully we find out soon. i5 7600K @4.8GHz | 1080 Ti | 32GB 3200MHz | SSD | DCS SETTINGS | "COCKPIT"
