Would love a Lynx - even the Mk.2 or 3 unfortunately there's still too many things in my opinion that DCS is lacking to make proper maritime helicopters worth their while.

The systems on the Apache are so complex it'd take aeons to make it!
That's not the reason.

The only helicopter module that has been confirmed and is in production is the Mi-24P Hind from Belsimtek. It was put on hold some time back though, then we were told that production was resumed on the module, and after that there was no more news. I assume that work continues on the module behind the scenes.

Another helicopter that was teased was the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion, by Razbam about a week or so back. It was just teased though, no idea whether it is actually in production or not.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Yeah, it's unclear if it's a module or just an AI asset for their Harrier module.

Like what? Just interested?

What's missing for naval helicopters? Well mainly it revolves around the fact that underwater doesn't exist in DCS this also means we don't have any ASW sensors such as SONAR (be it active, passive, dipping or otherwise) or MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detector). Not having an underwater also means we have no ASW weapons - no torpedoes, no depth charges, no mines or ASW rockets. Most importantly, submarines also cannot dive or submerge and can't be used for combat in DCS - the best you can do if fire at a surfaced submarine that has no ability to react defensively. We're also lacking other features from the maritime environment as well, but they don't impact naval helicopters as much...

All in all realistic ASW is quite far away from being a thing in DCS

The HAS.2 and HAS.3 were both designed for ASW (HAS = Helicopter Anti Submarine).

The HMA.8 is more multi-role (HMA = Helicopter Maritime Attack)

We also don't have rescue hoists/winches which also means no troop fast-roping, while we do have sling-loading.

In other words we can't do this:

Lynx_Mk3_Helicopter_with_Torpedo_Royal_Navy.JPG

Or this:

Royal_Marines_Fast_Rope_Onto_Dhow_MOD_45150378.jpg

Lynx HAS.2, HAS.3 and maybe the HMA.8 (not sure though) had dipping SONAR - not possible in DCS. I believe the Lynx was also able to perform HIFR (Helicopter In Flight Refuelling) from above the deck of ships, which also isn't possible in DCS.

We can however do this:

royal-navy-lynx-fires-final-sea-skua-missiles.jpg

and this:

MQ130020241.jpg

So the naval Lynx can be used for humanitarian purposes and maybe Carrier On-board Delivery as well as ASuW, but can't be used for ASW meaning it also can't use it's dipping SONAR. It also can't be used for troop insertion, SAR/CSAR or anything else using the rescue hoist/winch.

Land versions of the Lynx however: AH.1, AH.5, AH.7 and AH.9 are all fully feasible in DCS as all features can be implemented minus the rescue hoist/winch

Well, now the Hind is publicly announced, so more Helos, Ahoy!

In addition to that, Wags mentioned in the recent Q&A that some version of the Apache is not a question of 'if', but 'when'... So no Apache for a while, but it is likely we will see it in the long run.

Naturally as it was not a 'public announcement' I would take it with a pinch of salt.

FWIW, helicopters that are somewhat official-ish and can be looked forward to are:

- Mi-24P from Belsimtek, as mentioned

- Postponed a few times, but I personally find it likely that sometime after the Hind, Belsimtek will like pick up AH-1W again, but that's just a prediction at this point, and nothing more

- After split of PolyChop, newly forming Miltech-5 is planning to continue on with the multi versions of Bo-105

- Polychop themselves have recently hinted OH-58 Kiowa in some facebook posts.

However, only Mi-24 is certain among them.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

Then please, indulge us in your wisdom instead of only patronizing :P

Yes. Sorry for my attitude. :) I think I shouldn't write something when drunk. :)
